    The Communications Branch is looking for a high-performing Editor (APS6) for the department's flagship newspaper publication Vetaffairs and electronic newsletter, e-news. This position sits within the Newsroom Team, which is responsible for delivering high quality communication products for the department and Ministerial offices aligned with DVA's communication priorities, and to support the wellbeing of the veteran community.

    The successful applicant will have strong writing and editing skills. They will have experience in compiling, editing and writing engaging communications materials within tight deadlines across a wide array of subject matter.

    This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong project management skills, sound judgement, creativity and an ability to engage regularly with DVA's Senior Executive, Ministerial Offices and other government agencies and stakeholder organisations.

    Duties

    • Coordinate, write and edit DVA's flagship newspaper, Vetaffairs, which is published three times a year and distributed to more than 250,000 veterans across Australia.
    • Coordinate, write, edit and distribute DVA's electronic newsletter, e-news
    • Coordinate, write, edit and regularly upload articles to the Latest News for Veterans section of the DVA website
    • Write and edit columns for Vetaffairs
    • Work with the Publications team and other members of the Communications Branch to edit external-facing text
    • Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Divisions, the Senior Executive, Ministerial offices, government agencies and ex-service organisations.

    Eligibility

    • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
    • All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements

    Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to18 months.

    A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.

    Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
