    About the role

    This role is part of the Youth and Community Services Team, working within the Early Intervention Framework. You will work within our Youth Drop-In Space to engage with young people from our local community. The Youth Worker will have a focus on early intervention and the role requires exceptional communication and time management skills as well as the ability to effectively facilitate group programs. The position requires strong cultural sensitivity and the utmost confidentiality with a willingness to go outside one's comfort zone to enable better outcomes for young people and their families.

    This role is Part-Time 3 days per week Wednesday, Thursday and Tuesday/Friday.

    • Work within the Targeted Early Intervention (TEI) framework to provide information and support to at risk young people and their families, empowering them to make positive and informed life choices.
    • To respectfully engage with young people within the Drop-in space and provide additional support where necessary.
    • To provide young people with relevant information about access to services and opportunities available to them.
    • Use a strengths-based approach to empower young people to learn new skills and grow in their own personal development.
    • Create a welcoming safe space that young people feel comfortable in, celebrate diversity, and have an opportunity to seek information, support, and advice.
    • Empower young people with the opportunity to participate in targeted programs (living skills, stress management) and social activities.
    • To plan and facilitate targeted school-based programs which provide young people with opportunities for personal, social, and emotional growth.
    • Adhering to Child Protection policy and guidelines and any relevant documentation regarding mandatory reporting.
    • Work, Health, and Safety reporting documentation such as, incident and hazard reporting.
    • Reporting on statistics for Youth Zone and targeted school-based programs.

    About You

    • Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work or Equivalent Qualification.
    • Proven ability to engage with young people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Sound understanding of trauma-informed practice.
    • Experience in mental health, AOD or housing, and Juvenile Justice.
    • Experience in developing and delivering targeted programs to young people.
    • Experience in facilitating activities, games and learning experiences.
    • A strong understanding of trauma informed and young person-centered frameworks, as well as child protection legislations.
    • Experience of developing and delivering targeted programs to young people and with strength in managing complex needs.
    • Demonstrated understanding of, and respect for, cultural and linguistic diversity (CALD).
