    Reporting to the Senior Lecturer, Education, this position of Digital Content Editor is to oversee and coordinate digital content development and production for the Invergowrie STEM Hub project, an initiative being developed through a partnership with Deakin University, Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), The University of Melbourne, and the Science Gallery. The STEM Hub aims to increase STEM participation through transforming engagement with STEM and raising awareness of STEM pathways amongst children and young people, especially girls and young women, their carers (parents, grandparents, or guardians) and educators.

    The role oversees our content publishing needs generated from academic research. The Digital Content Editor works collaboratively with a team of content writers, freelance content contributors, and academic experts to develop and curate compelling and engaging content for early childhood educators, teachers, parents and children.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and oversee all aspects of new content development for the STEM Hub project to deliver STEM learning outcomes and values within constraints of time, cost and quality.
  • Collaborate with a team of content creators and academic experts to come up with fresh, creative content ideas and storyboarding techniques, keeping target audience in mind.
  • Supervise and work with a team of content writers and freelance content contributors, to facilitate growth and development by giving balanced, constructive feedback, considering individual capability and team performance.
  • Draw on a diverse range of people, groups and resources to identify new or improved opportunities, processes and ways of doing things to enhance organisational strategy.
  • Plan and prioritises work and critical activities appropriately and recognises barriers to achieving outcomes, finds effective ways to deal with them and evaluates progress.
  • Research, brief, write, edit and review digital content for web, email and landing pages, ensuring content is on brand and consistent in terms of style, quality and tone-of-voice and
  • visual representation.

  • Ensure that content from the website development company and/or digital agencies involved adheres to the STEM Hub's needs.
  • Consult a diverse range of stakeholders and experts (e.g. web designers, graphic designers, marketing executives and video/photographers), not immediately involved, to gain a broader and deeper understanding of a specific issue and to improve quality and presentation of content.
  • Manage the ongoing maintenance of web content review, including various rich media assets, to ensure the public website remains up-to-date and meets changing needs and hub goals.
  • Analyze data and analytics to monitor website traffic and seek to increase user engagement and retention.
  • Apply knowledge of SEO and industry best practices in strategic planning , development and editing of content.
  • Represent the organization, actively participate and/or convene research-based workshops, launches, meetings, and press events.
  • Ensure that content developed complies with copyright and privacy regulations.
  • To be successful, you'll have:

  • A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Proven work experience as a web content editor
  • An understanding and experience in creating content for education audiences, including children, educators and/or parents/carers
  • Editing skills with a demonstrable portfolio of published work
  • Hands on experience with systems including InDesign, Photoshop and other digital content creation tools
  • In-depth knowledge of SEO
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and writing skills in English
  • Proficient in desktop publishing software, Microsoft Office and Social Media platforms.
  • Demonstrated skills in managing complex projects and diverse teams is desirable
