    Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent, and enthusiastic English teacher, who ideally has excellent interpersonal skills.     The successful applicant will ideally be a positive and passionate teacher of English, with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. The successful applicant should use their professional knowledge, understanding, and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant English curriculum, from the early and middle adolescent phases of learning, through to senior secondary courses. Previous experience and a capacity to teach lower school Gifted and Talented and Academic Extension, senior school ATAR and/or General English would be advantageous but is not required. The successful applicant should be an enthusiastic adopter of a college wide instructional framework based on explicit teaching and instructional skills, strategies, and tactics. They will ideally be committed to personal and professional growth and embrace opportunities for collaboration.

    Successful applicants will ideally display the ability to develop innovative classroom practices and utilise ICT to provide integrated, personalised, and authentic learning experiences for students. A key attribute is the ability to create environments conducive to learning and provide educational opportunities that are fun, purposeful, relevant, and cater for differing student learning needs. Commitment to the college extra-curricular activities (after-school Academies) is highly desirable, as well as active promotion of the college motto, values and vision within the college and wider community.

    Please note the current timetable includes a Year 8 HASS class. It is desirable that the successful applicant is able to teach this class for the remainder of this year, however other alternative options can be explored if needed.

    About Us

    Located in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities.

    Stage 1 buildings include administration, student services, library, gymnasium, fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, technologies, general classrooms, specialist science laboratories, nature play area, and the Specialised Autism Program classroom and Homeroom. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2, (rolled out during 2024), will include a performing arts centre, lecture theatre, additional student services, and general classrooms. This term the English department took possession of one of the brand-new two storey learning area blocks.

    The college places a high priority on professional learning, with a focus on a whole of college instructional framework as part of our 'Alkimos Approach.' A commitment to self-reflection and growth is vital. The college uses a coaching framework for all planning, review, performance development, and classroom observation and feedback. Staff are expected to embrace technology and innovation and enhance their skills with technology to improve work practices. The college provides students with a range of devices available to suit the learning required. This includes laptops, iPads, Macs, and PCs.

    Alkimos College has high expectations of the student cohort to ensure all students are well prepared for their future, and have the opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to achieve their potential. This is complemented by a strong focus on student engagement and mental health and wellbeing, through our bespoke Anchor Program. Alkimos College is only one of eight secondary schools chosen to have a Specialised Autism Learning Program. The college also has an academic extension pathway and in 2022 commenced the Gifted and Talented Academic Selective Entrance Program.

    This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
