    About the Role

    Reporting to the Specialist Engineer, Structures, the Lead Engineer, Structures is primarily responsible for assessing structural design reviews and structural change request proposals from projects impacting the Victorian road network.

    The position will use creative and advanced problem solving to independently resolve complex structural issues and implement a consistent approach in assigning relevant risk levels and determining whether the change request proposals meet relevant standards, specifications and technical requirements.

    The Lead Engineer, Structures will be required to provide trusted and respected technical advice and support to assist the Department of Transport and Planning discharge its road manager obligations and ensure a safe, efficient and sustainable network.

    We are seeking a candidate with accomplished critical thinking and problem-solving skills adept at considering broader business context and delivering effective solutions with tangible outcomes.

    The ideal candidate should demonstrate accomplished professional engineering knowledge in applying structural design principles, risk assessment frameworks, and stakeholder engagement to develop feasible technical solutions while considering broader impacts.

    The ideal candidate will possess applied project delivery and stakeholder management abilities, coordinating tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring client satisfaction while constructively handling stakeholder issues

    Improved Operational Performance -Engineer, Structures has achieved a highly efficient and reliable operation as an outcome of effective engineering reviews of a change request and the timely delivery responses that have met quality standards and in a commercially sustainable manner.

    Risk Management–Relevant technical risks, have been identified and managed effectively to ensure a safe, reliable and maintainable network.

    Enhanced Collaboration–The incumbent has worked collaboratively within DTP and across MTIA to ensure expectations and change requests, timeframes and quality standards are achieved, and they have provided trusted and respected advice.

    Technical Advice and Review –Trusted and respected technical advice provided to Stakeholders and engineering reviews are completed in accordance with relevant design codes, standards, specifications and technical requirements including Government policy, to understand impact on the network of major projects and proposed network change requests and waivers to standards requests.

    Engineering Assessments –Contributes technical knowledge and familiarity with design codes, standards and specifications to effectively assess prequalification requirements of consultants providing structural design services.

    Qualifications and Experience
    Mandatory
    Tertiary degree in Engineering or related discipline
    Current Professional Engineering Registration in the field of civil or structural as issued by the Victorian Business Licensing Authority
    Minimum 5 years experience in structural design of bridge structures, including sound design detailing skills to ensure that safe, efficient and practical solutions are applied to structures during construction; and
    Minimum 5 years experience with knowledge and use of AS5100:2017 Bridge Design.
    Familiarity and use of DTP Bridge and Structures publications, particularly Bridge Technical Notes and Vic Roads Specifications; and
