    We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Corporate Lawyer to join AGL and deliver high quality environmental compliance related legal services to AGL.

    Internally referred to as the Senior Corporate Lawyer – Environment, Transition & Approvals, this newly created role will primarily focus on two core areas applicable to AGL's operations:

    • Planning and environment law, including renewable and thermal site operations and HSE regulation; and
    • Resources law, land access and approvals related to major projects, energy hubs, transition and decarbonisation initiatives.

    As a trusted legal advisor, you will have the opportunity to develop initiatives which improve the quality and efficiency of legal services, whilst supporting senior leaders through this exciting energy transition and decarbonisation agenda.

    What you'll be doing:

    Reporting to the Group Counsel – HSE, People & Transition, you will:

    • Provide strategic advice on planning, environmental law matters, including approvals, rehabilitation, and regulatory enforcement.
    • Assist in establishing legal support priorities and resource allocation for achieving strategic goals.
    • Support senior leaders and the legal team in meeting due diligence obligations, including environmental compliance.
    • Ensure cost-effective external counsel is available and maintain relationships with them.
    • Deliver legal training programs on planning, environmental regulation, and industry trends.
    • Develop initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of legal services.
    • Lead AGL representation on planning and environment legal matters, including regulatory compliance and enforcement.
    • Maintain an understanding of planning and environmental law and advise on legal implications.
    • Assist in preparing and lodging submissions on legislative and policy changes.
    • Manage AGL's legal risk by identifying and addressing risks proactively.

    About You

    What you'll bring to the table:

    • Demonstrated experience (7+ years PQE) in either private practice or in-house counsel roles (or both) with experience in Planning, Property and Environmental law
    • Bachelor of Laws degree and admitted to practice in an applicable Australian jurisdiction
    • Experience in advising on complex legal matters in relevant legal discipline
    • Ability to liaise with senior stakeholders
    • Strong ability to think analytically, communicate concisely, demonstrate strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
    • Energy experience will be highly regarded
