    Data Engineer

    The Data Engineer is responsible for producing data analytics, so it is available and automated for the Electrification & Innovation team. This includes sourcing, cleaning, and analysing data, and then engineering processes so that data is automatically surfaced to Value Streams (and other E&I teams). The role involves coordinating with stakeholders across AGL to access critical data, taking ownership of E&I's data governance processes ensuring compliance with Australian Data Protection legislation and developing frameworks.

    Additionally, this role helps coach E&I team members on data analysis capabilities to help the team self-serve as much as possible. This role sits within the Commercial & Data Enabling Function which is responsible for supporting Value Streams on commercial, financial and data analysis/modelling required across all E&I products. This enables AGL to become Australia's market leader in decarbonising the way Australians live and move.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Engineering automated processes, developing and implementing data processes so that data is drawn from its source, cleansed, analysed and surfaced to team members
    • Sourcing data and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across multiple data system owners to actively source relevant data required within E&I. This involves developing automated data collection processes and integrating new data sources into E&I systems
    • Identify, Assess and Integrate External Data Sources, assessing the costs, data quality and the high-level benefits the data could bring to the team in collaboration with the Senior Manager of Commercial & Data.
    • Data Excellence, take accountability and ownership of all data governance processes across sourcing, cleansing, and analysing data. And work with others in the team to maintain structured data in E&I databases.
    • Compliance, overseeing robust data compliance processes, ensuring that all data-related activities align with Australian data protection laws and industry best practices. This includes the establishment and enforcement of stringent safeguards for handling sensitive customer data across the E&I team.
    • Continuous Improvements: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement improvements in data gathering, analysis, and reporting methodologies. And working closely with marketing, sales, digital and product development teams to ensure a cohesive approach to data analysis.

    About you:

    • A degree in Data, Maths, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field is required. A master's degree is preferred.
    • Proven experience using data visualization tools such as Power BI, Adobe Analytics and/or other reporting tools, with expertise in integrating data from multiple platforms.
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, including Extract, Transform and Load processes. Strong command of MS Office/Excel, with knowledge of VBAs highly advantageous.
    • High attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
    • Effective coaching skills, with experience overseeing or mentoring a data analyst. Combined with good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong internal stakeholder management skills. With the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
