    Mater Pathology is seeking for an experiencedCytology Scientistto deliver high quality and cost-effective diagnostic service.
    This is apermanent full-timeposition.
    The role may be required to work independently as a sole scientist on 'after hours' shifts.
    Mater Pathology is the oldest pathology service in the Brisbane and surrounding areas.

    Initially established and supervised by the Sisters of Mercy in 1919, Mater Pathology has grown into a multi-faceted and technologically advanced laboratory service serving patients, doctors and hospitals.

    The service invests all profits back into patient care and is part of Mater Misericordiae Limited.
    Mater Pathology is proud of its history but also is recognised for its experience in highly complex pathology.

    The service is delivered by dedicated staff that understand healthcare such as our highly skilled specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, laboratory assistants, collection phlebotomists, couriers and other support personnel that ensure you get the correct result on time.

    Our collection centres are located in over 20 suburbs supporting local communities.

    In addition, Mater Pathology also offers a 24 hour collection service out of the South Brisbane Mater Adults Hospital for patient convenience.

    What you'll be doing

    This role requires a high level of scientific knowledge, demonstrated Gynaecological and Non-Gynaecological screening skills to a high standard and have an appropriate level of experience in Cytology.

    Be familiar with protocol and requirements of Non-Gynaecological sample preparation and staining, and engage in appropriate troubleshooting if required.
    Proficiency in specimen preparation is essential.
    Have experience in attending rapid onsite evaluation of Fine Needle Aspiration procedures, including EBUS YBNA and EUS FNA.

    Manage work priorities to effectively meet critical clinical requirements and ensure accurate clinical diagnostic results are reported promptly and accurately.

    Work cooperatively and communicate effectively, with Anatomical Pathology staff and with external clients, including Clinicians.

    Impart and learn scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities and contributing to Laboratory meetings.

    Commensurate with level of experience, provide delegated scientific education and supervision for less experienced practitioners and providing, as delegated, direction to assistant and support staff, including undergraduate, operational and administrative staff.

    Participate in the quality control processes.

    Salary range:
    $ $54.43 (Health Practitioner Level 3) per hour plus superannuation
    About you
    To be successful in this role, you are required to have:
    A Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification.
    Certificate of Competency (CTASC) - Non Gynaecological and Gynaecological components or ready to sit the CTASC exam
    Demonstrate high level clinical knowledge and skills as recognised by graduate education or formal qualifications and level of experience
    Applicable Memberships and/or Fellowships of Professional bodies relevant to Cytology (advantageous)

    In addition you will have well-developed oral and written communication skills and work as an active team member providing laboratory services dedicated to patients and our doctors.
