    Position Summary

    Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

    An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Allied Health Assistant to join our Chronic Pain Service.

    This position is based within the Health Independence Program (HIP) and reports directly to the Physiotherapists in the HIP Chronic Pain Service.

    The Health Independence Program services aim to assist people with chronic disease, aged and/or complex needs that frequently use hospitals or are risk of hospitalisation.

    The services of the HIP Chronic Pain Clinic are available to patients with persistent pain to remain living at home and to prevent unnecessary representation to the Emergency Department or admission to Hospital.

    The Allied Health Assistant will work as a member of the HIP Chronic Pain Service which is an interdisciplinary team of medical, nursing and allied health professionals providing clinical care and treatment to HIP clients with persistent pain working in the out-patient setting.

    The service operates on Monday and Thursday at the Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Heidelberg Repatriation Campus.

    To be successful in this role the key responsibilities will include:

  • Successful completion of at least the Certificate IV (Allied Health Assistance) from an RTO or equivalent.
  • The ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds in a positive manner that fosters ability to achieve desired goals.
  • A positive approach to teamwork and a willingness to undertake a broad range of clinical and non-clinical duties.
  • An understanding of the basic theoretical principles of the work undertaken by the Allied Health Professionals and the goals of the program.
  • Ability to organise own workload and set work priorities within the program established by the Allied Health Professional
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision to implement therapeutic and related activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client-focussed skills.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines efficiently.
  • A current Victorian driver's licence and willingness to drive for work related activities.
  • Previous experience in similar work and/or Certificate IV – Allied Health Assistance (Physio), Bachelor of Applied Science – (Human Movement) or equivalent.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desirable but not essential for Performance in the Position:

  • Previous experience in Pain services and knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Previous experience in a community setting.
  • Previous experience working with a multidisciplinary health team.
  • Experience in leading adult groups.
  • Qualification in Human Movement / Exercise Physiology will be highly regarded.
