    Our Opportunity

    Title: Systems Engineer – Rail

    Work location: Perth based (Redcliffe/Hazelmere)

    Roster: 5/2 roster (Monday to Friday)

    In support of Fortescue's strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Heavy Industry projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet and rail locomotives.

    Based out our new Redcliffe and Hazelmere R&D facilities and reporting to the Heavy Industry Integration Principal Engineer, we are presently looking for experienced System Engineers with Rollingstock experience.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers to design and develop rolling stock systems.
    • Lead the requirements analysis and definition process for rolling stock projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Develop system architecture and integration plans for rolling stock components and subsystems.
    • Perform system-level modelling, simulation, and analysis to validate design concepts and ensure system performance and reliability.
    • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address technical challenges and project uncertainties.
    • Support the procurement process by evaluating supplier proposals and providing technical guidance throughout the vendor selection process.
    • Participate in design reviews, verification, and validation activities to ensure adherence to project requirements and specifications.
    • Collaborate with project managers to develop project schedules, track progress, and identify resource requirements.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and team members.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
    • Proven experience working in the design and development of rolling stock systems for rail or transportation applications.
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations advantageous
    • Proficiency in systems engineering tools and methodologies, including requirements management, system modelling, and simulation (e.g., DOORS, SysML, MATLAB/Simulink).
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and develop effective solutions.
    • Experience with leading DFMEA's
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience with project management practices and tools (e.g., MS Project, JIRA) is desirable.
    • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and adapt to changing project priorities and requirements.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work products on schedule.
    • Familiarity with safety-critical systems engineering principles and methodologies is a plus.
