    About the role

    As the Psychologist you will play a crucial role in supporting the needs of children and young people under the care of Abcare, providing assessment and therapeutic support within an evidence-based, culturally sensitive approach as well as:

    • Conduct clinical work promptly, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Assess the social, emotional, intellectual, cultural, health, and educational needs of children and young people through direct engagement, review of reports, and discussions with staff and referring agencies.
    • Develop therapeutic, culturally responsive, and strengths-based support plans in consultation with young people, staff, and stakeholders.
    • Provide individual therapy addressing issues such as trauma, emotional regulation, executive functioning skills development, and capacity building.
    • Collaborate with staff, carers, and volunteers to create a supportive therapeutic environment meeting the needs of young people.
    • Stay updated on resources and sector initiatives, including trauma-informed practices, and disseminate relevant information to our client group and Abcare staff.
    • Participate in professional development to ensure clinical practice aligns with service standards.
    • Engage in regular supervision with the Clinical Services Manager and peer case discussions with the clinical team.
    • Provide reports as requested and maintain data and statistics for internal and external purposes.

    About you

    To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience in conducting psychological assessments and providing evidence-based interventions, preferably within a child and youth mental health setting as well as.

    • Possess a current registration with the Australian Psychological Board.
    • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, cultural competency, and strength-based approaches.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical guidelines.
    • Hold a current NSW Working with Children Check clearance.
    • National Criminal History Check.
    • Be COVID-19 Vaccinated.
