    Status:This is a 12-month temporary full-time position to cover maternity leave.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Finance Analyst helps us make a difference in our community by building and maintaining highly efficient, well-organized finance operations to support programs across the entire organization. This position requires strong analytical skills, a keen ability to identify and implement administrative efficiencies, a good work ethic, and strong interpersonal skills. The Finance Analyst will play an important part in ensuring timely month-end reporting and analysis of financial results. They will also support accounts payable by reviewing and verifying invoice batches.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    General Accounting

    • Prepare statistical, financial, and accounting reports
    • Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers, and prepare financial statements
    • Keep financial records and establish, maintain, and balance various accounts
    • Responsible for BMO Spend Dynamics program and supporting all cardholders with usage of the system
    • Monthly corporate credit card reconciliation
    • Support for both accounts receivable and accounts payable

    Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare, review, and ensure the accuracy of financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, as well as ad hoc reports for funders and stakeholders to ensure compliance
    • Prepare year-end working papers and schedules for the annual audit
    • Process monthly general ledger journal entries or adjustments, including allocations

    Financial Analysis and Insights:

    • Analyze financial data and trends to identify key insights, risks, and opportunities for improvement
    • Provide support to program directors and managers in financial decision-making processes
    • Conduct variance analysis and prepare financial commentaries for management review
    • Complete finance-related surveys and other ad hoc analysis, accounting, and administrative duties
    • Develop and utilize financial models to facilitate forecasting, scenario analysis and financial decision-making
    • Prepare capital and project tracking schedules

    Process Improvements:

    • Evaluate business processes, systems, and data requirements, and recommend improvements to meet information needs
    • Identify opportunities for automation and standardization of reporting tasks
    • Document changes and improvements by updating the accounting procedure manual regularly
    • Maintain effective filing systems/procedures for retention, transfer and disposal of records

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Post-secondary education in accounting or related field
    • 2-3 years prior finance experience
    • Experience in a non-profit organization is considered an asset
    • Experience with Sage accounting software an asset

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Proven ability to design, implement and manage complex reporting processes
    • Meticulous attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and efficiency
    • Skilled in the use of MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint)
    • Strong Excel skills with the ability to create pivot tables, graphs, and charts to analyze data
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to design, implement and manage complex reporting processes and recommend improvements
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written),
    • Strong active listening skills and the ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, tact, and diplomacy in interactions with staff, volunteers, and the public
    • Ability to be a flexible, collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic environment
