    Our client is seeking to engage an Operations and Safety Officer

    Location: Canberra, ACT

    Contract Length: Full time (shift work)

    Eligibility/Security Requirement: Applicants must be Australian Citizens

    MAIN DUTIES:

    Safety

    • Provide assistance and report to the Team Leader to ensure that the company is compliant with the CASA Part 139 Manual of Standards – Aerodromes and other required regulations.
    • Deliver safe and compliant facilities through effective monitoring and maintenance of operations.
    • Monitor the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS), Foreign Object Debris (FOD), bird hazards, movement and maneuvering areas as part of the aerodrome serviceability schedule in the AOM.
    • Maintain constant patrol of the area during operational hours.
    • Raise Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS) to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight.
    • Investigate and submit completed pro-forma aviation incident and hazard reports.
    • Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Company's WHS policy and its WHS procedures.

    Emergency Response

    The Operations and Safety Officer team will provide first response and establish a forward command post in response to a Company's emergency in accordance with Company's Emergency Plan and Company's Standard Operating Procedures.

    Compliance & Work Safety Duties

    The Operations and Safety Officer will comply with and maintain their knowledge on the Operations Manual (AOM), Emergency Plan (EP), Transport Security Program (TSP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Safe Working Procedures (SWP), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), the Safety Management System (SMS), WHS Policy, Canberra Environmental Management Plan (CAEMP) and all other workplace procedures.

    • Take on Work Safety Officer (WSO) duties and responsibilities for projects covered by Method of Working Plan (MOWP) and/or the Minor Works Plan (MWP).
    • Ensure the Company maintains environmental compliance in accordance with the Environmental Management Plans.

    Bird and Wildlife Control

    The Operations and Safety Officer will be responsible for maintaining the bird and wildlife hazard management program in accordance with the Company's Operations Manual.

    Other

    Any tasks as directed by Operations and Safety Manager or Management.

    Role Requirements:

    Qualifications

    Have obtained a Certificate III in Aviation, Aerodrome Operations or the ability to achieve this within 12 months of commencing in the role.

    Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)

    The Operations and Safety Officer will be required to hold and maintain a valid ASIC. This requires a 10 year police and AusCheck background check. Each Operations and Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring they apply for and renew their ASIC before it expires.

    Drug and Alcohol Testing

    A drug and alcohol test will also be carried out prior and during employment as per the Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP) and CASR safety regulation requirements.

    Valid Driver's License (C Class )

    A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain an Authority to Drive Airside (ADA) license during the 6-month probationary period.

    Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate

    The CASA issued Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC) to be obtained during your 6-month probationary period.

    Firearms License

    Be able to legally ascertain a firearm license during your 6-month probationary period. The Operations and Safety Officer must maintain a valid firearm license for the purpose of bird and wildlife control.
    The Operations and Safety Officer must maintain and administer the safe use and storage of Firearms in accordance with their Firearms license and the Company's Operations Manual.

    Training

    The Operations and Safety Officer is required to undertake all essential training as part of the role and to maintain their competency. The Operations and Safety Officer is expected to participate in all recommended training and education as deemed necessary. This includes training in ADA's, CAT 2 and CAT 4 licenses and any general familiarization. Assist with training of internal and external persons requiring aviation related assessments.
