    Description

    The Role
We are currently seeking an Experienced Station Hand to join this well-established family-owned enterprise. Working and reporting directly to the hands-on manager, this role offers a diverse range of tasks, making it a dynamic workplace with a variety of job opportunities. You'll be involved in both sheep and cattle work, responsible for property maintenance tasks such as fencing and mechanical repairs, and actively contributing to the cropping enterprise, which includes activities like sowing and spraying.

Our clients value observant team members who can follow instructions but also work autonomously when necessary. Your ideas will always be welcomed, creating a collaborative atmosphere within this organisation. They are specifically searching for candidates who desire to progress into an Overseer/Assistant Manager type role in the near future, which they will assist you in preparing for, including further education and networking pathways through Peter Westblade programs.

    The Property:
This 3,100-ha enterprise is primarily centred around a prominent sheep operation, specialising in Merino self-replacing wool production. They consistently yield over 500 bales of wool annually, achieved by joining 8,500 ewes to Merino or Dorset rams. Additionally, they maintain a self-replacing cattle herd of 170 head, occasionally engaging in opportunistic trades during favourable seasons.

Complementing their livestock operations, the enterprise manages 500 hectares of mixed cropping, which includes wheat, canola, and barley in rotation with improved pasture. They utilise a combination of side-by-side vehicles and motorbikes for efficient mustering across their undulating naturalised pastures. The enterprise is well-equipped with modern machinery, including John Deere, FlexiCoil, and Gold Acres equipment, to facilitate their operations.

    The Employer:
Our clients are a prominent family-owned enterprise, boasting an expansive landholding totalling nearly 75,000 hectares, complemented by an additional 1,300 hectares of leased country. The diverse portfolio of properties encompasses various climatic and production zones, enabling us to engage in a wide range of agricultural activities. The operations include the management of Merino sheep, beef cattle, dry land cropping, prime lamb production, and substantial water rights that are actively traded annually. With a proud legacy spanning four generations, the enterprise is currently under the capable stewardship of the fourth-generation farmer, with the next generation already beginning to step into leadership roles.

    The Offer
Rewarded upon experience, the successful candidate will also have access to a well-appointed 2.5-bedroom cottage with air conditioning, a work ute for work purposes, internet, station meat and a dog food allowance.

Located right off the Hume Highway and on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, Jugiong offers a fun and entertaining community that boasts the renowned Sir George Tavern and the Long Track Pantry. A primary school bus is right past the front gate, and Yass and Gundagai are nearby for secondary schooling. Harden is a short 30-minute drive that can provide weekly needs such as groceries, medical services, banking and sporting opportunities. Wagga and Canberra are within 1.5 hour's drive for all other primary services.

    The Ideal Candidate
Ideally, you will be someone with previous experience in a similar role and can work as part of a team environment.

To succeed in this role, the following skills and prior experience are an advantage:

    • Previous sheep and cattle experience.
    • Own working dogs capable of working the undulating landscape.
    • Mechanical aptitude.
    • Great communication skills
