    Because of the complex, specific and varied nature of the role, we're seeking an experienced oncology nurse who is familiar with Bowel (colorectal) Cancer and the care pathways across the range of cancer treatments available.

    About the Role Icon Cancer Centre and Bowel Cancer Australia have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Bowel Care Nurse to join our Rockingham team in a part-time capacity (3 year contract).

    Reporting to the Site Manager, this role will focus on the delivery of exceptional personalised supportive care to patients with bowel cancer.

    The role of the Specialist Bowel Care Nurse is to work in partnership across all health areas and sectors including non-government agencies, to contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients diagnosed with bowel cancer.

    The level and types of interventions delivered by the Bowel Cancer Specialist Nurse will vary according to the complexity of care required and the individual need of the patients in their care.

    Workload will be mainly self-generated, and this will be achieved through extensive interdisciplinary collaboration across primary, secondary and tertiary health.

    The incumbent is required to develop and implement a coordinated, evidenced based, seamless and patient focused approach to providing nursing care.

    Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive assessments and screenings for clinical and supportive care needs of colorectal cancer patients at specific intervals throughout their treatment journey.

    Plan, coordinate and provide bowel care management, support and education across the surgical, medical oncology, radiation oncology, follow-up/survivorship, and palliative care settings, where appropriate Provide evidence based specialised bowel care education, information and support to patients and carers regarding their treatment, planned outcomes and care delivery program Develop and implement structured referral pathways to enable timely and appropriate referrals across the care continuum to allied health and supportive care service providers.

    Facilitate the involvement of the patient as a partner in the development of their care pathway Provide high level of clinical care, act as a clinical resource, advisor, mentor, role model and technical expert, in relation to bowel cancer, including facilitating education programmes Contribute to quality improvement activities aimed at improving outcomes for people affected by colorectal cancer.


    Skills and Experience Required:

    Possess a Bachelor of Nursing Current AHPRA registration Minimum 3 years post registration experience Demonstrated relevant advanced level of skill in cancer, bowel (colorectal) cancer or oncology nursing; Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary context; Ability to work effectively as a team member; Proven leadership qualities; Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; and Evidence of participation in and commitment to quality improvement and best practice principles.


    Desired:

    Possess or be working towards a post-graduate cancer, bowel (colorectal) cancer or oncology nursing certificate and/or qualification; Patient teaching experience and/or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; and Competence in the use of relevant information technology.
