    If so, a permanent opportunity is available in our Occupational Health, Hygiene and Noise Team located at Cannington.

    About the role

    WorkSafe WA plays an integral role in upholding healthy and safe workplaces in Western Australia, reducing workplace incidents to ensure workers return home safely every day. We drive workplace change through education, specialist advice and enforcement.

    As a WorkSafe Inspector Scientific Officer, you will have a vital role in ensuring that workplaces are:

    • adopting appropriate risk management strategies to reduce workplace hazards that can cause multiple and repeat fatalities and serious injuries;
    • working to improve the management of psychosocial hazards;
    • protecting workers from health hazards such as harmful dusts;
    • consulting and involving workers in designing and implementing safe systems of work; and
    • complying with work health and safety laws.

    You will carry out workplace inspections, enforce WHS legislation and provide advice on occupational hygiene issues with limited guidance.

    Drawing on your WHS industry experience and occupational hygiene knowledge, you will be responsible for:

    • carrying out workplace inspections and taking appropriate enforcement actions when health and safety laws are breached;
    • conducting investigations into workplace incidents or accidents, which may include injuries and fatalities, in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020;
    • gathering evidence and making recommendations about prosecutions and presenting evidence in court; and
    • providing coaching, advice and support to contribute towards sustaining a positive team culture.
