- Knowledge and/or experience or qualifications in project management methodologies.
- Knowledge and/or qualifications in a relevant discipline e.g. disaster risk science, climate change, geospatial science, social science, emergency management, critical infrastructure or other related field.
- Experience working in an area of applied research and/or a disaster management and operational planning or policy context.
- Capacity to support program delivery and emergency operations across the state, which may include work outside normal hours (e.g. nights and weekends).
- Contribute to the development of climate and disaster risk analysis and enhancement of operational tools and information to support and strengthen the department's decision making.
- Provide subject matter leadership on climate and hazard risk to support risk-informed decision making in the department.
- Provide high-level advice and guidance to identify and assess risks to the department and support good governance in disaster risk reduction strategies across the QDMA.
- Undertake projects and contribute to deliverables, monitoring and evaluating outcomes against performance targets to effectively support the department's disaster management responsibilities.
- Prepare and review timely and well researched briefing papers, submissions, and reports in relation climate and disaster risk management initiatives, in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.
- Contribute to the development and management of hazard and risk communication and education strategies to support and effectively liaise between the department's regional staff and volunteers, disaster management groups and the community.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure stakeholder requirements are met and business objectives are achieved.

Description
The Hazard and Risk team leads the development and delivery of evidence-based climate and disaster risk information for the department through the integration of contemporary and internationally aligned risk methodologies. The team contributes to a range of activities to support risk-informed decision making and to meet the department's disaster management responsibilities for Queensland communities.Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for providing advice and support for climate and disaster risk management in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of Queensland's Disaster Management Arrangements (QDMA). You will work as part of a team contributing to the design, integration, implementation and evaluation of the department's projects, programs, systems, tools and policies to help reduce the disaster impacts on the community.

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
