    The Opportunity:

    As our Grossing Technician, you'll play a crucial role in our histology laboratory. Your primary responsibility will be the accurate grossing and processing of non-complex specimens and tissue in accordance with RCPA cut-up guidelines as well as maintaining high-quality standards and meet performance targets.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Checking accuracy of specimen reception and accessioning process with respect to specimen order, case prioritisation, billing, referring Dr details, labelling and entering patient details
    • Ensuring all necessary equipment is prepared for daily operations.
    • Accurate dictation of clinical notes and macroscopic description.
    • High quality, accurate and timely cut-up of non-complex specimens in accordance with protocols.
    • Performing quality checks of information as entered by specimen reception i.e. specimen order, case prioritization and patient details.
    • Appropriate referral of complex cases/cases that they are not trained to perform to Registrar/senior cut-up staff.
    • Ensure the supervisor/supervising pathologists is notified immediately with regards to any problems/ questions concerning specimen cut up.
    • Operation, maintenance and basic troubleshooting of the tissue processors in accordance with corresponding manuals.
    • Engage in continuous education programs and the continual improvement of laboratory processes.

    What you will need to succeed:

    • Have a degree in science, applied science, medical technology or at least 2 years relevant experience in Histology.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to appropriately exercise initiative whilst maintaining interpersonal sensitivity.
    • Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks effectively, with the ability to delegate appropriately.
    • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
    • Practical knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and WHS principles.
    • Have an extensive understanding of the laboratory operations and understand the impact of laboratory functions on other areas of the practice.
