    The Role

    The Taxation and Governance Accountant provides taxation and governance (including financial risk, compliance and insurance) advice to the University community and its subsidiaries. Under the direction of the Senior Taxation and Governance Accountant, you will be required to prepare all University and subsidiary tax returns (including income tax returns, FBT returns, BAS / IAS returns) and the maintenance and submission of relevant financial governance registers, insurance renewals and claims.

    Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Independent analysis and interpretation of taxation legislation, including its risk and impact assessment on the University and its subsidiaries,
  • Provide advice on various taxation issues including Income Tax, GST, FBT, PAYG, Payroll Tax and International Tax,
  • Prepare Private Binding Ruling submissions to the ATO as required,
  • Prepare and/or review and lodgement of all University and subsidiary tax returns in accordance with relevant governing requirements,
  • Prepare and present regular tax and insurance training to internal University stakeholders,
  • Liaise with the ATO, insurance brokers, auditors and other external advisors and key stakeholders,
  • Maintain the University taxation and insurance related internet and intranet pages,
  • Review, draft and/or update tax, insurance and governance related Finance policies and procedures.
  • What you'll bring to this role

  • Degree and minimum of 3 years' experience and/or education/training in a related discipline,
  • Experience in applying established technical and commercial principles,
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant statutory requirements including accounting standards, and key high-level state and federal legislation, including those relating to taxation,
  • Proven track record in the development of financial policy and compliance controls,
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation,
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively to meet tight deadlines whilst maintaining high work quality.
