The chief engineer typically reports to the chief engineer of the fleet.
The chief engineer is responsible for the engineering departments daily operations and decisions.


Duties:
The chief engineer is responsible for ensuring all of the companys vessels and personnel comply with all regulations.
The chief engineer also oversees all engineering contractors, accountants, and lawyers.

Typically, engineers specialize in one of the following areas:
naval architects, marine engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, and marine surveyors

Duties:
Develop and manage construction plans and specifications, including cost, time, and qualityDevelop accurate timelines and budgets for all projectsDirect the work of architects, engineers, and other outside expertsMeet with and support other senior managers, including senior management in operations and financeDevelop procedures for construction, maintenance, and upgradeReview all project documentationOversee construction contractsMaintain a safe and healthy work environmentComply with all legal and regulatory requirements

Chief Engineer Responsibilities:
