    The Disability Contact Officer is part of this team and is a dedicated point of contact for staff with a disability, their managers and colleagues.     About the team

    People Branch sits within the department's Enabling and Business Services Group and is responsible for strategic and operational focussed HR advice and services to support business areas to meet their workforce needs. We support and enable our people to deliver the government's agenda in a safe, diverse and inclusive environment.

    We lead and manage the department functions for:

    • Employee Relations
    • Talent, Leadership and SES Unit
    • Work Health Safety, Wellbeing and People Support
    • Recruitment and Employment Programs
    • Inclusion
    • Capability and Workforce Planning and Reporting

    The opportunity

    Whether you're an experienced APS HR professional or looking to start out in your APS career, we are seeking experienced, awesome HR practitioners to help lead and develop the department's people function. You will help to drive performance, inspire change, and unlock potential from all employees to deliver positive outcomes for the business.

    We are seeking to fill several Assistant Manager (EL1) vacancies across the branch. These include:

    • Assistant Manager, Recruitment
    • Assistant Manager, Case Management
    • Assistant Manager, Work Health Safety and Wellbeing
    • Assistant Manager, Employee Relations
    • Assistant Manager, Senior Executive Service Unit

    What you will do

    Each Assistant Manager will lead a small team in the respective area of work.

    • Assistant Manager, Recruitment will:
      • lead the Recruitment team to provide operational recruitment services to the department
      • review and implement best practice recruitment solutions to improve operational effectiveness and inform business decisions
      • manage escalations and complex recruitment enquiries
      • engage and work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to achieve departmental people priorities, building strong and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
      • build on and work to develop strategic recruitment capability for the department
    • Assistant Manager, Case Management will:
      • provide proactive and effective support to managers and employees through the provision of case management services.
      • build relationships with managers and employees to appropriately handle sensitive work matters and resolve conflict with tact and trust
      • provide guidance and advice on best practice people performance and management processes, injuries, illness, rehabilitation and return to work plans
      • assist and coach people managers to improve their capacity to sensitively handle workplace matters and advocate for commitment to early resolution
      • provide accurate policy guidance and ensure this compliance with departmental policies and procedures and relevant Commonwealth legislation across the entire case management cycle
    • Assistant Manager, Work Health Safety and Wellbeing will:
      • develop and deliver WHS policies, strategies, programs and interventions to improve the physical and psychosocial safety and wellbeing of employees
      • assess, evaluate and develop WHS systems and policies to identify gaps and improvements to meet future needs of the organisation
      • provide WHS advice to internal stakeholders on the effective management of operational activities
      • engage with stakeholders to identify and manage risks and hazards, driving a continuous improvement and safety culture for the department
      • provide subject expertise for investigations where safety-related incidents or breaches have occurred
    • Assistant Manager, Employee Relations will:
      • initiate and manage projects to review employee relations policies, programs, services and service delivery models to improve systems and the end user experience
      • provide specialist advice on, and interpretation of, employee relations policy and legislation to assist in the resolution of complex matters
      • prepare complex and/or sensitive correspondence, briefs and documentation
      • ensure that relevant HR policies, guidelines and factsheets are fit for purpose, regularly reviewed, up to date and made available to employees
      • engage, consult and build relations with staff and the union, through departmental consultation including through our National Consultative Committee
    • Assistant Manager, Senior Executive Service Unit will
      • manage and design SES recruitment processes, and manage SES on-boarding and off-boarding in line with APSC and departmental guidelines
      • assist in the development and implementation of the SES Development and Performance Framework, including management and delivery of a suite of learning and development activities and programs for the department's SES leadership group

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

    Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

    Notes

    This process is being run concurrently with a general recruitment process and an Affirmative Measure - First Nations process to fill various opportunities at the Executive Level 1.

    A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
