    Teaching ServicePosition Information

    Mittagong Public School (enrolment 500, with 10% children identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 5% identifying as English as an Additional Language) is a dynamic learning environment with a focus on quality teaching and learning, a full and balanced curriculum and great care for the well-being of children. Our students are placed in 20 mainstream classes, and 3 support classes.

    Mittagong Public School is a Positive Behaviour for Learning school and the core values of Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation underpin all student wellbeing procedures. The school has the support of the National Chaplaincy Program and has an active Homework Centre for our Aboriginal students.

    Our teaching staff are dedicated professionals who are committed to collaborating in teams, providing quality experiences, and continually seeking to implement best practice. Staff collaboratively use data, plan, implement and evaluate teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse needs of students. There are strong community partnerships including the P&C and parent body that enhance the educational outcomes of the school. Students are provided with opportunity to develop their interests and talents in academic, artistic, cultural and sporting domains to maximise their potential and to become confident, independent learners.

    Specific Selection Criteria
  • In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with proven ability to build the capacity of teachers with varying degrees of experience, whilst maintaining exemplary classroom practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the implementation of high quality, differentiated literacy and numeracy programs based on evidence-based practices and effective data analysis for improved student achievement.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead wellbeing programs, so that all students can connect, succeed, thrive and learn
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the executive team to lead and evaluate the implementation of the school plan and school initiatives.
  • Demonstrated visible leadership with outstanding interpersonal skills to build strong, collaborative relationships with staff, students, parents and the wider community.
  • General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policiesConditions
