    City of Moreton Bay are proud to be partnering with the Queensland Government in the Skilling Queenslanders for Work First Start Traineeship program.

    This program aims to provide young people and disadvantaged job seekers with an opportunity to join our team for 12 months within a traineeship position where you will develop new skills and experience whilst undertaking a nationally recognised qualification and contributing to our local community through paid employment.

    The Details:

    • Maximum Term Full Time (12 months)
    • Starting at $48,206 pa (includes industry and uniform allowances) + super (up to 12%) + leave loading. Please note - junior rates apply for applicants under 21 years of age - remuneration starting from $43,901 (includes industry and uniform allowances) + super.
    • Incremental increases will occur with time spent in the position or completion of agreed number of training competencies (whichever comes first)
      Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream B) - Level 2 of the EBA5 (pro rata)
    • 9 day fortnight
    • 76 hour fortnight | 6:00am - 3:00pm or 6:30am - 3:30pm (dependent on the team)
    • Location: Burpengary depot - please note, our Burpengary depot is set to move to a Narangba location later in 2024. Please also note that our Construction teams travel directly to allocated work sites.

    About our Traineeship Opportunities

    We have opportunities available in the Construction and Roads and Drains teams within the Asset Maintenance department of City of Moreton Bay where you have the opportunity to finish your 12-month program with qualification in Civil Construction.

    Your responsibilities will include undertaking the requirements of the Certificate II in Civil Construction training whilst participating in a range of construction and maintenance duties as directed. Our traineeships will have you performing general labouring tasks, using and maintain plant and equipment and maintaining good working relations with team members and the public. There's a little more information about the specific team below:

    Our Roads and Drains Team (undertaking a Certificate II in Civil Construction)

    Our Roads and Drains team undertake a range of duties on road and drainage works which may include levelling, pavement grade checking, basic concrete formwork/placement/finishing, signage and the laying of pipes and pits. Our team carry out labouring duties on civil construction-based maintenance projects within our region, contributing and maintaining the communities transport infrastructure.

    Our Construction Team (undertaking a Certificate II in Civil Construction)

    Council's Internal Construction Crews undertake a range of construction projects across the full suite of civil activities. Predominately delivering road works, stormwater drainage, bulk earthworks and traffic and transport infrastructure upgrades. Labourers within the Internal Construction Crews can obtain a skill set which would see them competent in activities including stormwater drainage installation, road pavement compaction, concrete formwork, placement and finishing as well as the ability to read complex construction drawings and use survey technology equipment such as GPS units and total stations.

    About you

    To be considered for one of these opportunities you will:

    • meet the eligibility criteria outlined above per the Queensland Government in the Skilling Queenslanders for Work First Start Traineeship program guidelines
    • be available for a June 2024 commencement date
    • have a genuine interest to work within and learn more about civil construction and maintenance
    • have the physical ability to safely carry out manual labouring tasks
    • be able to work effectively as part of a team
    • hold a current drivers license (minimum C class) and have transport to get yourself to/from work
    • hold or be willing to obtain a Construction Induction Card prior to commencement
    • meet citizen, residency, and visa requirements to undertake a Traineeship.
