    About the Role The Lead Applied Scientist role sits within the Research and Development (R&D) portfolio.

    The portfolio is made up of cross-disciplinary teams with members from Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering and Strategy who work together to research, design, build and support projects and services across the Spectrum Management and Electromagnetic Warfare domains.

    In this role you will create and manage the pipeline of work to ensure delivery within timeframes and effective adoption of innovative technologies alongside the Chief Scientist for a team of specialist Applied Scientists and Engineers.

    Key Responsibilites:
    Mentor other company Applied Scientists including leading and managing Senior Applied scientists.
    Exposure to Defence industry and have an established background in Communications, EW or Radar (or substantiated equivalent).
    Provide expertise knowledge in at least one of ML/AI and Command and Control area.

    Perform the duties/function of a Product Owner and provide technical leadership for Consunet's R&D work on (Electromagnetic Warfare) EW and Spectrum Management.

    Ability to work with and liaise with key stakeholders (internal and external) to understand business questions and execute research projects that deliver business solutions.

    Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to assist functional and non-functional requirements gathering, user story definition, strategy studies, business requirements specifications and feasibility studies.

    Working across multi-disciplinary environment with specialists in machine learning, engineering, and data engineering.
    Identify and evaluate innovative technologies or solutions and prioritize potential options to support business decisions.
    Build and maintain mutually beneficial networks with external collaborators including universities, vendors, suppliers, and industry partners.

    Adding real-world impact to your academic expertise, with involvement in paper writing and being able to communicate with non-technical stakeholders for meetings and presentations.

    Maintain an advanced level of scientific excellence and collaborator contact by regularly attending national and international technical meetings and conferences.

    Stay connected to relevant current and upcoming research, technologies, and industry trends.
    Build an effective information network.

    Experience and Skills:
    Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Applied Statistics, or Mathematics.

    Proven experience in a similar role where you have applied advanced analytical and statistical methods in the commercial world and data science methods to business problems.

    You have exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders and strong presentation skills to explain complex analytical concepts.

    Able to write serviceable code (Python, SQL, C++) and comfortable working with and around a professional software development team.
    Proven experience in the Spectrum Management, Electronic Warfare or RF Domain.
