Pie LAB Capital is an investment manager with numerous portfolio companies across three funds.
Our flagship fund is a permanent capital fund which invests in and operates small and medium businesses.

The investment mandate is sector agnostic, Australian based SMEs with recurring revenue and earnings between $1 M and $5 M.

We distinguish ourselves from traditional private equity in that we are investors who want to hold businesses for the long term.

We refer to our flagship fund as a serial acquirer and are looking to build a sizable portfolio companies) by the end of the decade prior to an exit event which may be an IPO.

The Position

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be supported by a knowledgeable financial controller in leading the finance team and working closely with the sales and investment team.

You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the finance and compliance functions across the group and providing commercial financial advice to support both Pie LAB and our portfolio companies and maximise their performance.

Your work will also support Pie LAB in our investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee the accounting and reporting obligations including reviewing accounting for the funds, performance and return calculations, investor reporting and annual statutory reporting, including overseeing the external audits.

Overseeing the group tax obligations including ensuring efficient tax strategy is implemented and consolidated group returns are accurately prepared and filed.

Lead the group compliance function including overseeing registry for the group, the internal audit function for our portfolio companies, and ensuring all compliance reporting obligations are met.

Financial due diligence including leading the financial due diligence process, assessing areas of risk and supporting the investment team with their consideration of potential acquisitions.

Skills and Experience

• Strong technical accounting abilities required.
• Audit or risk management experience highly desired.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong understanding of the Australian tax environment, including grouping and tax planning experience desired.
• Highly advanced Excel abilities necessary and experience in three-way modeling desirable.
• Experience dealing with small to medium sized businesses desired.

Where will I work from?
Pie LAB is based in Brisbane, although we have companies that operate or have head offices all over Australia.
We typically only invest in Australian companies, but we suspect over time we'll invest further afield.

We work from the office at least 2 days a week, although some people prefer to do that more often.
