    Data Scientist

    • 12-month fixed term contract role
    • Location Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane

    About the role:

    As part of the Digital Insurer (DI) program's E2E Design Working Group, the DI Data & BI team provides direction on design & solution of future data & BI landscape, acting as representatives for the business when liaising with DI data delivery squads.

    Replacement of the core Policy platform (Protect to Duck Creek) will significantly change current data models and data structures and is expected to impact > 5,000 reports with multiple data sources and complex data transformations.

    The nature of the > 5,000 reports – their type, audience, data sources, value, ongoing relevance, etc. is currently not well understood or documented, which hinders efforts to design a solution for our future data & BI landscape.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Develop modelling capabilities to deliver on data & reporting rationalisation:
      • Identify commonalities across multiple data warehouses and reporting platforms in the current state to inform the design of a unified data platform.
      • Automation of streamlined report catalogue that contains usage profile, report classification, and key dependencies to inform on priority of delivery.
      • Work with metadata across multiple BI systems and data warehouses, including Tableau, Cognos, PowerBI, Redshift, etc.
      • Propose solutions / master templates to facilitate the design of a unified data platform.
      • Work closely with key business stakeholders to take them through the findings from the model and incorporate feedback into model development as appropriate.
    • Work closely with the Product Owner(s) on the discovery, scoping and delivery of the project.
    • Establish strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders and agencies identifying shared goals, removing blockages and enabling collaboration.
    • Manage stakeholder expectations and act as an advocate for CAPDAN (Common as Possible, Different as Necessary), data democratisation, self-service, and North Star Principles.

    About You:

    • Bachelor's or higher academic qualification with a degree in either Data Science/Artificial Intelligence/Computer Science or related field.
    • Data Scientist Experience (minimum 2 years' experience)

    Key Capabilities:

    • Experienced with iterative development including data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model fine-tuning.
    • Experience with Posit, R, SQL, and relevant libraries (boto3, openai, openpyxl, graphviz, langchain, etc.)
    • Experience with systematic data validation to ensure adherence to data requirements.
    • Experience working with Generative AI (e.g. OpenAI).
    • Skills in project management and communicating with internal and external stakeholders, and ability to meet deadlines.
    • Strong presentation and excellent communication skills.
    • Comfort dealing with large amounts of data on a regular basis.
    • Exposure to Dashboard development.
    • Outstanding communication skills.
