    Toowoomba Grammar School is looking for a dynamic and energetic Head Coach Athletics. TGS staff are passionate about boys' education and providing an inspiring and broad curriculum for all boys informed by best practice and evidence.

    About Toowoomba Grammar School

    Toowoomba Grammar School was founded in 1875 and is a member school of the Great Public Schools Association of Queensland (GPS). It is an independent non-denominational day and boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of 1,200 from Preparatory to Year 12. There are approximately 300 boarders in the School coming predominantly from throughout Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory. The School's campus covers 20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre of Toowoomba.

    About the Position

    As the Head Coach – Athletics, you will lead the Track and Field program, driving student-athlete development across all age groups. This role is central to crafting a nurturing yet competitive environment, focused on achieving excellence in running, jumping, and throwing events, and fostering a deep appreciation for athletics.

    You'll mentor students and coaches, and ensure the program aligns with the school's values. Your responsibilities include overseeing training, managing team selections for major events, and maintaining effective communication with the school community.

    You are a passionate, accredited athletics coach with a rich background in track and field, ready to inspire and develop young athletes. With outstanding leadership, communication, and organisational skills, you thrive in creating strategic programs that propel students towards excellence. Flexible, committed, and motivated, you're eager to contribute to a nurturing yet competitive athletic environment, making a lasting impact on the lives of students both on and off the field.

    Selection Criteria:

    You will be able to demonstrate your ability and commitment to:

    • Qualifications and Experience: Holder of a minimum Athletics Australia Level 1 coaching accreditation, with a preference for Level 2 or higher. Experience in coaching track and field at school or representative levels is essential. A background in sports science or a related field is desirable, along with current Positive Notice (Blue Card) and Senior First Aid Certificate.
    • Leadership and Development: Demonstrated ability to design and implement comprehensive athletics programs across all age groups, from primary to senior levels, and to mentor elite athletes aiming for Regional, State, and National competitions. Must exhibit strong leadership, motivational skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive team environment, and a deep commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
    • Communication and Organisational Skills: Exceptional communication abilities to effectively liaise with a variety of stakeholders and strong organisational skills to manage and prioritise tasks effectively, including the ability to plan seasonal activities and adhere to budgets.
    • Technical Skills and Personal Attributes: Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and the capacity to quickly learn and utilise the School's database systems. You should be energetic, proactive, and passionate about athletics, with an ability to inspire and motivate students and;
    • Flexibility and Compliance: Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in line with the athletics schedule. A commitment to upholding the school's values, policies, and procedures, and inspiring positive behaviours in staff and students.
