You will take ownership for ABB installed base of Pulp & Paper Quality Control Systems (QCS) around Australia. You will maintain the Solution Architecture of all existing systems, perform proactive maintenance, work with the sales team to offer upgrades and expansions and also assist in defining the architecture of new projects. You will be supported by a network of pulp and paper experts across the South-East Asia region and Europe. Working for an OEM, you will be designing, engineering, troubleshooting & inspecting a variety of different QCS and ABB Automation systems. Reporting to the Service Manager, the role will be based on the East Coast of Australia (with a preference for Melbourne).

    Your responsibilities

    • You will be responsible for the technical service and projects on ABB's Australian Pulp & Paper Quality Control Systems (QCS)
    • For upgrades/expansion projects, you will be responsible for the solution architecture, estimation, design, documentation, and commissioning of ABB QCS hardware and software
    • For larger projects (which include both QCS and DCS), you will work as part of a team to ensure the QCS portion of the projects are scoped and executed correctly. You will also work as a technical owner, with the support of local and overseas teams to assist you in execution
    • Provide technical support to customers, remotely and on site. Troubleshoots complex technical issues and make recommendations for future improvements
    • Optionally (but preferred), you will also have ABB DCS experience. If you have this experience, work may include: 800xA Application Engineering, 800xA Systems Engineering, IT/OT setup and technical support (ESXi virtualization, Microsoft Windows Server & Domains, Network switches/firewalls, WSUS, antivirus management and system backups)
    • Keep system documentation up to date for the sites you are responsible for, including flagging any improvements or upgrade opportunities
    • Proactively identifies suggestions for product, quality and customer service improvement and discusses them with global product owner and local management team

    Your background

    • Engineering Degree majoring in Software, Control Systems, Electronics, Mechatronics or similar
    • >10 years' experience in Pulp & Paper or similar industries, with at least 2 years focusing exclusively on ABB Pulp & Paper QCS. As you will be the senior ABB QCS engineer in Australia, strong technical skills in Pulp & Paper QCS are required, including but not limited to control systems, scanners and sensors, actuators and profilers. There is a network of overseas colleagues who can assist for complex issues
    • Proficient in the process of fibre production and papermaking.Proactivity is of the utmost importance
    • Demonstrate a good team spirit, excellent interpersonal skills and able to build networks and relationships with customer and colleagues at all levels.
    • A self-starter who is excellent in planning, organisation, time management skills and able to work well both independently and in a team
    • Excellent in analytical, problem-solving skills and able to diagnose root cause of issues, select suitable solutions to problems as well as identifying preventive actions
    • Candidates who also have experience in ABB DCS Systems will be viewed favorably, due to their ability work on both ABB QCS and DCS (e.g. AC800M, 800xA, AC450, INFI90 Harmony, MOD300 or similar)
