    Job Description In your role as Engineering Manager, you'll be leading the native app engineering team responsible for our independent and highly respected mastheads, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.


    You'll play a vital role in helping your team grow their skills professionally while delivering the product & technology roadmap for a best-in-class news experience to audiences around Australia.


    You'll be leading a cross functional squad of 7 mobile engineers including a quality engineer, and will partner closely with your Product Manager and Designer to deliver creative solutions to identified opportunities and challenges.


    Deliver business/audience value Partner with key stakeholders to translate business goals and requirements into effective engineering solutions & deliverables Drive the continuous improvement of squad processes and ways of work to improve team capacity and capability Technical Leadership Drive adoption of best practice and ensuring engineering decisions align with the project and product engineering strategy Work with team members to guide solutions towards business and technology goals Act as an enabler, removing roadblocks to progress as needed Remove single points of failure by cross-skilling staff Drive high performance Establish and maintain a highly motivated and high performance team culture through one on one feedback, mentoring, coaching and performance management Maintain high quality standards for yourself and software engineering practices of your team Effectively lead people processes including the hiring of new talent Qualifications You are passionate about your team and their professional development.

    You remain engaged in their wellbeing, growing their skillset and assisting them in finding great opportunities to further themselves.


    You are experienced working with either mobile or web development and technologies, and your knowledge allows you to provide meaningful support to your team by reviewing work and providing feedback.

    Your 'can-do' and open customer centered approach makes you approachable to work with.


    You contribute to a learning-oriented workplace culture, being curious about the world around you, seeking new ways to explore and bring new thinking and practices to bear within your team.


    You remain open to learning new technologies and techniques, and finding creative ways to leverage this knowledge to further team goals.


    2 years in a team leadership role with line management responsibilities Demonstrated knowledge of mobile application development and delivery Demonstrated experience partnering with product managers A strong understanding of agile development best practices including Scrum and Lean methodologies A demonstrated bias for action and proactive approach to opportunities and challenges A history of high performance and self improvement for yourself and those around you.
