Manager, Software Engineering (Cloud)

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Software Engineering (Cloud) to lead our transition to a cloud-first approach and ensure the effective management and maintenance of our existing application landscape.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for guiding our Software Engineering practice through this transformation, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:

• Leading a team of technical specialists, providing direction, support, and mentorship to achieve team, project, and individual growth objectives.
• Overseeing the development and implementation of software solutions, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, technical requirements, and industry best practices.
• Leading solution and enterprise architecture designs, in consultation with the architecture and other technical teams.
• Evaluating and implementing new technologies and tools to drive innovation, improve service delivery, and enhance operational excellence.
• Assessing technical risk and developing mitigation strategies to ensure high-quality standards are met by all members of the Software Engineering team.
• Guiding the team on cloud migration strategies, ensuring a smooth transition while aligning with the university's cloud-first approach.
• Overseeing the consolidation and rationalisation of existing software applications, ensuring continued support and alignment with strategic objectives.

To Be Successful, You'll Need:

• Experience managing and coaching a team of technical specialists and providing technical leadership and solutions for complex projects.
• Extensive experience troubleshooting and optimising complex software environments.
• Deep expertise in cloud platforms, primarily Azure, with AWS and GCP experience beneficial.
• Proven success in cloud migrations and a strong understanding of cloud application architecture, services, and best practices.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and people management skills, with the ability to mentor, educate, and influence team members on emerging technologies and strategic approaches.
• The ability to work at a high level, providing strategic advice, while also being able to get into the detail and work hands-on with the tools.
