    About the Role

    This is an ongoing STS role

    The Senior Manager Strategic Asset Management – Rail sits within the Strategic Asset Management - Rail Branch of Assets and Engineering and leads a small team that is accountable for providing strategic foresight to the management of Victoria's rail asset base with a focus on Regional Rail and Freight.

    With strong connections to other parts of the Department and across the transport portfolio, particularly Rail Planning, Transport Services and the Operators, the Senior Manager is accountable for understanding emerging strategic issues for Regional Rail and Freight and taking ownership for resolution of strategic challenges.

    The role leads the team to understand the performance of regional rail assets to deliver rail system outcomes for passenger and freight customers and leads the process to accept new assets and significant changes to the asset base on behalf of DTP.

    The Senior Manager develops the team's role as the custodian of rail asset portfolio strategies, providing direction to other key stakeholders on the development of and updates to the department's future direction

In this pivotal role, you will become the driving force behind strategic asset management for our expansive rail system. Your mission will be to skilfully navigate the complex landscape of rail assets, addressing both the challenges and opportunities that arise with precision and foresight.

    As the custodian of our rail assets, you will collaborate closely with Transport Services and Rail Transport Operators to ensure the seamless stewardship of these critical resources. Your role will foster role clarity and effective asset management practices, reinforcing the foundation of our rail network's success. A specific focus will be on establishing an empirical baseline of performance for our asset base in collaboration with our Asset Intelligence team.

    Beyond these responsibilities, you will be at the forefront of stakeholder engagement, creating pathways for open dialogue and effective issue resolution. Your strategic leadership will shine through as you develop comprehensive rail asset strategies and plans that set realistic performance benchmarks and account for the intricate strategic nuances of the rail industry.

    And, perhaps most importantly, your role as a leader will extend beyond your strategic contributions. You will inspire and support your team, nurturing a culture of high cohesion and unwavering commitment to delivering the services that drive our vision forward.

    Qualifications and role specific requirements

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering or similar.
    • Experience in rail strategic asset planning is desirable
