    Description

    The Employer
Our clients own a highly productive and well-appointed beef breeding and finishing property that covers 3,400 acres of productive sandy loam soils in Western Victoria, adjacent to the Grampians National Park. The company's focus is to produce an elite herd of commercial Angus beef cattle, with around Angus females being joined each year via natural mating and artificial insemination.

Additionally, over 200 acres of hay crops are grown yearly for their own use in conjunction with an annual pasture renovation program; all sowing and pasture/crop establishment is done in-house with contractors used for silage production. There is potential for improvement across genetics, pasture, and paddock development to allow for increased carrying capacity. The owner would like you to involve them in strategic management and objective setting. They are available to assist with the operational tasks when necessary. There are no other employees, and contractors are engaged as required.

    The Role
We seek a conscientious and self-motivated individual to fill the Working Farm Manager position. To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must have a passion for beef cattle breeding and possess excellent, docile cattle management skills with experience in rotational grazing, pasture improvement, fencing, hay, silage making, general machinery, and building maintenance.

The primary responsibility of the Farm Manager is to oversee all farm operations related to animal health, welfare, and production. This includes managing AI programs, improving pastures and crops for fodder, maintaining and constructing farm infrastructure, and overseeing the maintenance of farm machinery and equipment. You should have a strong background in beef cattle farming and excellent mechanical knowledge.

Your main objective is to ensure the farm operates efficiently and sustainably while meeting the business's production goals. You will be responsible for optimizing the enterprise as a critical driver of productivity and profitability. To achieve this, you must have a hands-on work ethic and take ownership of the farm's success.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Cattle husbandry, including marking, feeding, drenching, weaning, and general animal health.
    • Livestock Marketing and Selling.
    • Grazing Management (rotational) and pasture/crop establishment.
    • Construction and maintenance of fencing.
    • Fodder making, both silage and hay production.
    • Regular reporting to owners as required, including reporting, and maintaining livestock, pasture, and machinery records.
    • Liaising with contractors.
    • Machinery Maintenance.
    • General building upkeep and maintenance.

    The Offer
An attractive salary package is available for negotiation with the successful candidate; this can include a commercial share in the livestock. A comfortable 4-bedroom, 2-bath house will become your home, with a great aspect, established gardens, and lawns overlooking Mt William and Large dams.

It is situated 20km away from Willaura, which has a state school, post office, supermarket, and bakery. It is 40km from a high school and a full range of shops and medical facilities in Ararat.
