- 5+ years of experience in a Cloud Engineer role, with practical experience.
- Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.
- Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases.
- Proficiency in administering Azure databases.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes.
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
- Advanced knowledge of a modern data application, Data Modelling and ETL.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Purview and data governance practices.
- Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable 'big data' data stores.
- Detailed experience in data modelling in cloud environments, structured and unstructured.
- Certifications from Microsoft Azure would be highly considered.
- Experience using big data tools, relational SQL and NoSQL databases, data pipeline and workflow management tools, Azure cloud services, stream-processing systems, object-oriented/object function scripting languages, and the Microsoft stack.
- Demonstrated experience in cloud technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, and PowerBI or similar data visualization tool .

The Opportunity
Herbert Smith Freehills are a leading international law firm and we're seeking a Cloud Engineer (Data) to join our team in Sydney. This is a permanent position, reporting to the Manager of Business Intelligence.
As a Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for the creation, testing, and implementation of software applications, determining technological needs, and suggesting solutions that meet them. You will enhance the delivery of cloud deployments and collaborate with development teams and others to streamline application services.
