- Ensure all workshop staff, contractors and visitors adhere to Northline's OH&S requirements while keeping the work environment safe and free from and potential risks.
- Work closely with the Fleet Supervisor to schedule maintenance and servicing of vehicles and trailers as per the Gearbox Maintenance Management system, as well as prioritising emergency repairs and breakdowns.
- Manage the maintenance of all workshop equipment e.g. vehicle-lifts, welders, grinders, presses, forklift etc.
- Provide on-the-job training as well as coaching and mentoring to mechanics, apprentices and other outside contractors.
- Ensure final check/test driving is completed by qualified personnel for all hauling and trailing equipment prior to return to work.
- Forecast and control of stock levels for workshop consumables, identification and ordering of the correct parts for workshop repair jobs.
- In conjunction with the Maintenance Co-ordinator manage all outsourced work, including the scope of work, quoting and quality control of all work performed.
- Perform trouble shooting and diagnostics on vehicles and equipment.
- Plan and organise the Preventive Maintenance System in accordance with the NHVR parameters, delegate specific tasks to ensure compliance with the regulator.
- Extensive experience in Mobile Equipment Maintenance.
- Full understanding of vehicle standards, NHVAS Regulations and the Maintenance Management component.
- Well-honed leadership and supervisory skills with an ability to motivate others.
- HR Driver's Licence.
- Engineering Trade Qualification, preferably Heavy-Duty Truck Mechanic or Diesel Fitter or equivalent.
- Experience with trucks including: Kenworth, Mac, Volvo, Freightliner, Hino, UD Nissan & Mitsubishi.
- Experience with trailers including: Vaudry & GMC Tautliners, Flat-tops, skels & Fridge vans.
- Experience with engines including: Caterpillar C-15 & C-16, Cummins, Volvo, Hino & UD Nissan.
