As one of Australia's largest cane growers, Bundaberg Sugar proudly operates a Sugar Mill, Refinery, and Packaging Plant in East Bundy. We are more than just a company, we are a vital part of the industry and community in Bundaberg, Queensland.
About the Role
A rare opportunity has become available to join our Refinery shift team as a Refinery Process Operator. This is a hands-on operational role working on a rotating shift roster, where you will be trained across three key refinery stations — fugals, pans and filters.
The successful applicant will need to be a dynamic, self-directed person with an assertive and "can do" mindset who can participate as an active member of the refinery shift team.
Key Responsibilities
As a key member of the refinery shift team, duties will include:
- Operating refinery equipment within your allocated station (fugals, pan stage or filters), along with associated ancillary systems, to meet quality standards and refinery throughput targets.
- Supporting flexible operations through training and capability across multiple refinery areas as required.
- Monitoring plant performance, production rates, equipment operation, quality criteria and losses, and reporting any issues or observations.
- Ensuring services such as air, feed, water, steam and lighting remain within specification, and escalating faults as required.
- Working closely with the Refinery Shift Supervisor/Foreperson to support boiling schedules and address operational issues as they arise.
- Assisting with maintenance and operational tasks during scheduled factory stops.
Role Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- A willingness to complete (or previous completion of) in-house training units across Refinery Fugal and Filter Operations, with the opportunity to become competent across multiple refinery stations over time.
- Experience in sugar milling, refinery operations, maintenance, or a comparable food processing environment.
- The flexibility to work across different operational areas as required, while typically being allocated to one station per shift.
- A forklift ticket (highly regarded).
- Sound computer skills, including experience with CITECT or similar process control systems.
