    This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the ground level of a rapidly expanding, dynamic, global green energy business. Fortescue Future Industries is currently undertaking a rapid expansion and are seeking applications for a Principal Engineer to lead the development of Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) for water electrolysers.

    As a Principal Engineer, you will play an integral role in the development of MEA products through the careful selection of materials and fine tuning their application processes. Prototypes shall be proven in the laboratory through to detailed technical testing programs relating to the production of green hydrogen at the highest efficiencies.

    The successful candidate should be an experienced technology expert in this field able to support the development of durable formulations and consistent, reliable manufacturing methods to maximise efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability of the products.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Participate as leader in safe working environment.
    • Contribute to the team in a positive manner as a leader and a mentor while achieving stretch targets.
    • Create a product roadmap for MEA development that aligns with business strategy.
    • Productively collaborate with a small development team of experts who define and deliver the internal MEA program outcomes.
    • Provide technical input into current and future formulations participating amongst leaders in the technology team.
    • Support the selection, evaluation, and development of materials to support the efficient production of prototypes with a strong focus on product commercialisation.
    • Aid the manufacturing team to quickly resolve coating and post processing issues to ensure the highest quality product can be produced.
    • Closely align with the manufacturing team supporting the development of cost-effective manufacturing and quality control methods.
    • Provide materials testing procedures and electrochemical evaluation parameters as needed in line with project strategies and sustainability goals.
    • Resolve material technical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Lead the commercialisation process for internally developed MEA products.
    • Participate the delivery of Sustainability activities.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree or higher in a relevant field of qualification such as Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical or Electrochemical Science/Engineering
    • Experienced in defining and setting up electrochemical testing to optimise CCM and MEA products.
    • Experienced in commercialising CCM, Membrane, or MEA products.
    • Significant experience in the fabrication and testing of quality CCM, Membrane, or MEA products.
    • Outgoing attitude with a passion for and commitment to delivering excellence.
    • Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication, and organisational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects as well as participate in an integrated group in time sensitive situations.
    • Fluent spoken and written English language skills with additional foreign language skills advantageous.
    • Strong computer literacy.
