The 6 million Wild Otways initiative plans to deliver a suite of projects that integrate research and on-ground action in a consolidated effort to protect threatened species of the Otway region by addressing multiple threats. The initiative is for 3 years to June 2023 and includes 5 sub projects that have gone through a tendering process, as well as a community grants stream. The 5 subprojects include, Pig and Deer control, Fox and Cat control in fire affected landscapes, Phytophthora Cinammoni control, a small mammal study, and exploration of rewilding options for threatened species. The initiative is funded by the Australian Government AG and delivery contracted by the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority CCMA . The majority of works will be delivered on public land managed by Parks Victoria PV , and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning DELWPs , as such, both agencies will play an important role in ensuring the success of the initiative. This position is designed to enable DELWPs collective support and participation in the initiative an equivalent role in PV will perform a similar function and will work closely with this position. The key areas of support that this position will provide include project planning, regulatory support, operations facilitation, coordination and program contact. Specialist Technical Expertise Qualifications A tertiary qualification in Forest, Fire, Land Management or similar or substantial experience in these fields is highly desirable. Knowledge or experience in fire ecology, invasive species management, and or threatened species conservation is highly desirable. Accreditation to access forest fire grounds safely or willingness to undertake training in highly desirable. This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2022.
