The Jindalee Operational Radar Network JORN has been a part of our nation's defence landscape for many decades and comprises three Over-The-Horizon-Radar OTHR systems to provide surveillance coverage of our northern border. BAE Systems has been awarded the contract to manage the sustainment and upgrade of this 100 percent Australian solution that is strategically important to Australia's security. We currently have a vacancy at our Radar 3 site located near Alice Springs, NT for a qualified Electronics Communications Technician to work on interesting and complex surveillance systems on a Fly In Fly Out FIFO basis. Joining us will see you working as a member of a small skilled team who provide support for the operations, maintenance and development of this unique radar. The work is interesting, technically challenging and above all, rewarding. The work our team does contributes to the defence of Australia. About the Opportunity As part of our Fly in Fly out team, you will work in shifts of 15 days on including 2 travel days and 13 days off. During your 15 days on you will be provided with accommodation, meals and travel. The right candidate must be located in Adelaide, flying out from Adelaide Airport. Staff at the JORN sites are responsible for providing ongoing support for operations, maintenance and development of the radar system. As a technician on the JORN project, you shall have the ability to work within a technical team operating and maintaining technical equipment on a continuing shift rotation, supporting new and existing equipment in a Defence operational environment. In terms of specific responsibilities, you will Be responsible to the Site Maintenance Lead for the ongoing support and performance of all equipment at site. Carry out technical support for the radar and associated systems in accordance with the Company's Maintenance Management Plan and other subordinate documents. Perform planned maintenance activities Perform operational level maintenance Carry out rectification of deficiencies and defects within the site systems Complete all fault reporting requirements Perform any other duties as directed by the Site Leads About you As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you should meet most of the following criteria Be a qualified technician with a minimum of 12 months experience in one discipline or 3 years desirable in two or more technical disciplines such as computer Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc , analogue, control, digital or RF systems. Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of RF Transmitters and Receivers, Ideally but not essential in the HF frequency range , and or associated digital control systems. Demonstrated ability in the maintenance of computers, networks and associated systems, particularly any experience with Linux Unix based systems. Ie Knowledge of LAN WAN networks, switches, servers etc Have experience using a computer based Maintenance Management System MMS , to report on work order status for Preventative and Corrective maintenance work orders. Have excellent problem solving skills with the ability to analyze faults to diagnose and correct performance and fault events. Use test equipment to carryout diagnostic and performance testing. Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills. Good technical writing skills to write and amend technical procedures. Demonstrated and clear understanding of WHS responsibilities and requirements.
