Working closely with the BDM Australia, the Senior BDM Australia (Global BD Lead for Power Industry Group) and the broader Asia-Pacific marketing and business development (BD) team to support the Partners on strategy for Australia and the Asia- Pacific.

The Australian team of over 70 lawyers across Melbourne and Sydney offer market-leading experience advising on legal matters related to M&A, project structuring, development, acquisition, disputes, tax and financing of infrastructure and energy projects across the globe.

Our growing M&A and PE group focus on complex public cross border transactions including listed company takeovers and schemes of arrangement also supporting listed clients on all matters relevant to listed entities, including listing rule compliance, corporate governance, capital management and takeover defence.

The team advise private equity, superannuation funds and other investment fund clients on a wide range of commercial transactions including secondary market sales in the infrastructure and energy sectors.

The huge market demand for infrastructure and the race to secure energy and natural resources in Asia drives this team with the region’s infrastructure needs demanding US$1.7 trillion annually in financing, according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The number of markets and sectors the team advise on mean it is increasingly important to stay coordinated and keep up-to-date with industry trends, government policy, client developments etc to spot, track and position for opportunities.

Duties and Accountabilities1 Business Development
  • Provide proactive and organized BD support to the Senior BDM Australia to deliver against objectives in the Asia-Pacific business plan with a focus on the firms growing M&A, PE and Tax practices.
  • Working with the Firms centralized BD support team to prepare proposals, capability statements, presentations and other materials (typically working to tight deadlines) working directly with the Partners and lawyers to present to clients. These materials must be client ready and convey the strengths of the firm concisely and convincingly, often involving significant original research and writing.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support BD activities.
  • Track BD opportunities in the firm’s customer relationship management database (CRM) and discuss with lawyers outcome and follow up.
  • Track transactions in the firm’s matter database to ensure experience is accurately profiled.
  • Collaborate closely with the broader marketing and BD team in Asia-Pacific and globally (eg. the Manila email marketing and creative services teams).
  • Communications
  • Maintain meaningful, convincing and concise BD materials.
  • Work with the lawyers on directory and award submissions.
  • Maintain internal communications (weekly emails) for Australia and Asia Pacific
  • Work with global communications team to suggest ways to improve profile internally/ externally (eg. the London based thought leadership team and the New York based social media strategist).

  • Prepare reports and respond to requests by Firm management.
  • Assist in the integration of lawyer new joiners and the handling of lawyer departures.
