The role As Tech Lead within ourSearch and Big Data squad, you will be responsible for the development and deployment of our Search API middleware, ML pipeline and Elasticsearch database. We are looking for in-depth knowledge of Terraform on AWS as well as experience with Python, Golang and Java. Further, you will have had prior experience with data processing making use of Pyspark.To support the rollout of our product search, discovery and recommendations engine, you will be tasked with building an event driven/stream processing aggregation pipeline to build user persona’s. Further you will be required to support and unlock our Data Engineers as well as the needs of our search relevance engineers.Your years of experience as a polyglot backend programmer, will ensure the success of the broader team to provide a world-class search and recommendations experience.
What you'll do:
Be hands on with our Golang search backend to optimise efficiency, and focus on long term globally scalability. Support our replicated Elasticsearch infrastructure Build a new pipeline for ingesting clickstream data to better understand our users Technically lead while, mentoring, driving and coaching a team of remote and local engineers Perform effective code reviews Deploy and manage AWS lambda and ECS infrastructure (with serverless and terraform) Gain holistic understanding of the whole system (Elasticsearch, Golang, Python, Pyspark, AWS ECS) Identify and remediate pain points in the application lifecycleRecommend, assist and implement architectural changes to improve performance and reliability Keep the bigger picture in mind, planning new/exciting features and run stand-ups Explore new technologies and share your findings with the wider global engineering teams Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation Work in a team with a "customer first" and “team first” mentality Arrange, encourage and run regularly check-ins with engineers in your team
To help us level up, you'll ideally have:
2 years+ experience as a Technical Lead 3 years+ experience working with Big Data platforms (Elasticsearch, Hadoop, AWS Redshift, AWS EMR, Spark). 5 years+ experience with Python / Golang / Java 3 years+ experience in AWS Cloud computing (AWS Lambda and ECS). 3 years+ experience in DevOps networking (Terraform, CloudFormation, Docker). Bonus points for:
Previous team management experience is desirable but not essential, with at least 1-5 direct reports is desirable. Experience in a high-energy, fast-moving, start-up environments. Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science.
