About the role:

As Software Engineering Manager you will be leading a team of software engineers (developers & testers) to build and deliver high quality business systems, services and applications to support initiatives, business as usual, continuous improvement and small change.

You will act as a technical advocate to the product owner, scrum master and value stream stakeholders by negotiating, influencing and resolving conflict to ensure solutions provide intended business value, are technically fit for purpose and aligned to technical roadmaps.

You will champion technical excellence and continuous improvement within an engineering team. Provide subject matter expertise and coaching within your team. Additionally, the role is responsible for taking a lead in supporting engineering best practices, new methodologies, training, mentoring and recruitment across the engineering function

Accountabilities:

  • Lead a team of up to eight software engineers. Forge an effective servant-leader relationship with the team to create and maintain consistent technical productivity, maximise overall quality
  • Develop skills/capability and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders. Ensure team is working within agreed risk/governance framework.
  • Standards and practice leadership
  • Work with the team to assess standards and practices maturity.
  • Educate and communicate the team on the current standards and practices. Develop, with peers, the standards and practices to reflect changes in technologies and engineering community trends.
  • Provide technological knowledge and leadership to the team.
  • Encourage, mentor and coach the team to develop their skills.
  • Help to shape, with peers, the standards, principles and guidance for the practice.
  • Ensure that team and initiative-based documentation is up-to-date, accurate and sufficiently detailed.
