This job involves working with Defence Satellite Communications, particularly Large Antenna SATCOM gateway systems.In this role you will instrumental for the 5B2 installation and support mission for on-site maintenance, troubleshooting, and test and training of Large Antenna SATCOM systems and equipment. This includes providing product support for the 5B2 Large Antenna SATCOM gateway system delivered to the Australian Government. You will fill a pivotal role in Viasat’s growth in Australia and be involved in proposals, development, test and deployment of SATCOM systems and equipment.To accomplish this, you will work with local and overseas Viasat technicians from multiple disciplines and teams.You will provide primary technical support to customers via phone and email, as well as on-site support when needed with the primary focus being the 5B2 customer.Additional support may be provided to the NBN customer leveraging the large antenna gateway experience.In addition to maintaining and updating training material, user manuals and other related documentation, you will also provide marketing demonstration support to current and potential customers. This opportunity is based in Canberra, ACT with approximately 50% of your time travelling the country supporting ADF technicians.
Requirements
  • Minimum Cert IV in Electronics and/or Telecommunications Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience with ADF military SATCOM systems, including large antenna system experience
  • Working knowledge of SATCOM TDMA theory, RF, Antennas, test methods and standard test equipment such as spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope and multi-meter
  • Experience developing Technical documentation
  • Experience delivering Technical Training
  • Ability to pass skills testing for grip and static strength, dynamic lifting and work/positional tolerances
  • Australian Citizen with active Australian Government Secret Clearance (NV1) or have held one previously
  • Ability to travelto domestic and international locations

  • Preferences
  • Hands on experience operating and troubleshooting SATCOM hubs, terminals and IP network equipment
  • Working knowledge of military standards and cryptographic baseband equipment (such as KY-100, KY-99, KG-84)
  • Experience with and ability to troubleshoot SATCOM system problems
  • Experience with WGS SATCOM systems a plus
  • Experience operating Kratos Compass and Monics systems
  • IP Networking troubleshooting experience is a distinct advantage
  • Experience with Customer Service and Ticketing Systems (e.g. SalesForce)
  • Experience with SATCOM Network Operations
  • Military background is a plus
