HOBAN in partnership with Australia's peak measurement body responsible for biological, chemical, legal, physical and trade measurement are seeking an experienced Analytical Chemistry Technician to work in a North Ryde facility, immediate start and going for 4.5 months with the strong possibility of extension.

The Australian Ultra Trace Laboratory (AUTL) is responsible for the analysis of Persistent Organic Pollutants at low levels in a range of environmental, food and bitoa samples. As a member of the team, the technician role will contribute to AUTL by ensuring the delivery of high quality results to a range of clients. They will provide these specialised analyses according to quality guidelines and procedures.

Key Qualities

  • Basic knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and experience in sample analysis and extraction.

  • High level of commitment, self-motivation and initiative together with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and exercise sound judgement in problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Good organisational and multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritise and monitor work flows, with ecellent attention to detail

    • Main Functions of the Position:

  • Perform sample extraction and purification of environmental samples, utlising manual and automated techniques.

  • Work effectively as part of the team and in accordance with laboratory quality systems, ensuring care and attention to detail.

  • Apply judgement in problem solving and take responsibility for delivering tasks within a specified timeframe.

    • Selection Criteria

  • Experience with analytical chemistry techniques, as relevant to an environmental testing laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a busy workload with a high level of attention to detail to ensure results are of the highest quality.
  • Ability to conduct analyses with limited supervision showing judgement in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others, learning and responding constructively to feedback, and contributing to the team's performance
  • Good communication skills with the ability to accurately document results and observations.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 quality systems and experience in these systems would be desirable.
