    Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.     About the team

    The purpose of the Customer Strategy and Technology division is to create the future of mobility in NSW and shape a world-class transport system for our customers, industry and communities. Within the division, Transport Planning branch is responsible for leading the strategic vision for the future of the transport network; including the provision of transport infrastructure and services to cater for future growth and demand, in line with customer and community expectations. The branch leads long-term, state-wide strategic planning, including the development of integrated network and place strategies in collaboration with the Transport cluster, government agencies, customers, communities and stakeholders.

    The Opportunity

    This is an opportunity to join Customer Strategy and Technology’s Transport Planning team as a Senior Planner for Country

    The Senior Planner for Country provides strategic guidance to the delivery of a range of Transport Planning projects, to support the NSW government’s vision and priorities, and ensure alignment with Future Transport 2056 and 10 Year Blueprint outcomes. You will provide expert advice and guidance by managing and coordinating engagement with Aboriginal stakeholders, industry and project teams throughout a designated region to enable TfNSW to effectively deliver its program outcomes. You will play a lead role in developing strong, sustainable relationships with Traditional Owners to strengthen their inclusion in long term state wide transport strategy and frameworks. The role works closely with the Aboriginal engagement function. You will provide the team with a new strategic capability in building and effectively maintaining strong partnerships with Traditional Owners across their designated region. To achieve these outcomes, you will develop a co-ordinated and strategic program for engagement with Aboriginal communities, Traditional Owners and Registered Aboriginal Parties across the region and ensure that their interests are represented in the forthcoming transport infrastructure and service planning projects.

    What you will be involved in:

  • Building and maintaining effective business relationships with Aboriginal people and communities who have connection to the places being shaped by our projects.
  • Providing cultural planning advice to projects from project planning through to completion. Ensuring early engagement with the affected communities to best represent their interests
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and specialist teams within the branch to ensure the best possible planning outcomes for Aboriginal people across regional and metropolitan NSW.
  • Influencing, and actively contributing to multidisciplinary planning teams in the early identification and management of issues facing Aboriginal people and communities, Aboriginal cultural heritage and land tenure risks through collaborative consultation in partnership with Aboriginal stakeholders.
  • Supporting and promoting engagement with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities and community groups to get a complete understanding of how Transport initiatives can help improve life conditions.
  • Adherence to the commitment of working collaboratively with Aboriginal customers and stakeholders to enable social and economic participation and build stronger, more sustainable and inclusive communities.
  • Support and guide on long term Transport Strategy to ensure we meet our responsibilities relating to Aboriginal community’s best interest when planning, building and maintaining the NSW Transport network.

    Essential requirements

  • Australian Aboriginal person.
  • Relevant qualifications or demonstrated proven experience in stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated high level project management and communication skills with a proven track record of influencing others to achieve co-operation at senior levels with internal, external stakeholders and the community.
  • Background in transport planning or policy would be preferred or if needed, upskilling support would be provided for the right candidate
  • Extensive high level knowledge of Aboriginal cultural heritage, specific issues and experience in influencing and implementing policies to improve Aboriginal employment outcomes.
  • Salary and Benefits

    The salary for this position is Transport Grade 8 ($118,015- $132,176) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
