Job Description Grid Connections Manager – Brisbane / Canberra – Developer
NES Fircroft are working closely with a well-established Renewable Energy developer to identify a Grid Connections Manager.
The preference is for the role to be based in Brisbane, although for the right candidate the company would also consider Canberra as a location.
You will be responsible for overseeing the grid connection process for a number of development assets and provide expertise in ensuring ongoing grid compliance of operating assets across Australia. Provide grid connection expertise to assist with the site screening and selection process. Perform feasibilities studies in PSSE or similar power system analysis software. Understand and critically analyse project feasibility assessment reports by grid consultants. Propose connection options based on cost to connect and technical complexity. Liaise with grid consultants, NSPs and AEMO and manage grid connection process. Lead technical negotiations process with NSPs on Connection Access Agreements and Contracts. Grid Performance Standards – Provide in-depth knowledge of the National Electricity Riles (NER). Understand and critically analyse grid connection study reports. Drive R1 and R2 model validation testing processes. Project Finance – Assist with the formalization and negotiation of network connection contracts. Construction – Where necessary assist with construction management of new wind farms, particularly grid connection processes, and potentially also design reviews, factory acceptance tests, quality control and the like. Planning and budgeting – Provide inputs to annual planning and budgeting processes, as necessary.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plant operations – Be familiar with the electrical, SCADA, communication, and dispatch systems on all plants. Provide expertise in the assessment of Grid Compliance of the operating assets. Power quality monitoring – Implement and maintain an automated power quality monitoring system on all sites under management to monitor compliance with Grid Performance Standards. Develop and implement suitable power quality reporting systems. Investigate and resolve GPS compliance issues as they arise. Studies and project management –Identify opportunities to provide Additional Services to plant owners, assist with the preparation of proposals and the delivery of these services. Such services to include investigations, feasibility studies, plant upgrades, capital project definitions, project management of capex, and the like.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE Mature professional experience, ideally with 5+ year’s relevant work experience Working knowledge of National Electricity Rules Working understanding of safety standards and practices. Working experience with power system digital simulation packages, such as PSS-E, PSCAD or similar Familiarity with testing procedures for primary and secondary plant Experience with project management
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE Familiarity with and data analysis tools such as Matlab, Python, R or similar Track record with R2 validation studies for renewable generators Experience with ongoing GPS compliance issues Working experience with SCADA systems
EDUCATION/TRAINING Relevant Degree level qualification (MS/BS in Electrical Engineer or similar)
