Position Summary

Conduct research and development (planning, execution and interpretation) on therapeutic antibody discovery projects with a focus on screening antibodies in a range of medium-to-high throughput cell-based assay platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-on laboratory-based role employing the following capabilities:

  • Medium-to-high throughput screening in cell-based functional assays.
  • Mammalian cell culture, including transient transfection of mammalian cells.
  • General molecular and protein biology, including handling and preparation of DNA.
  • Production, purification and characterisation of recombinant proteins (including antibodies) - desirable.
  • Flow cytometry, immunoassays including ELISAs, or Surface Plasmon Resonance - desirable
  • General lab duties, as required.
    Other duties include:

  • Record keeping and maintaining detailed, accurate laboratory notebooks.
  • Compliance with all current policies and procedures.
  • Corporate citizenship, including serving on in-house committees.
  • Qualifications

    A BSc (Hons) in life sciences with emphasis on cell biology, immunology physiology or pharmacology. Previous experience in industry-based R&D will be highly regarded.

    Professional Experience / Knowledge

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques, including transient transfection of mammalian cells.

  • Understanding of the drug discovery and development process related to therapeutic antibodies.

  • Experience with medium-to-high throughput cell-based functional assays.

  • Knowledge of general molecular and protein biology, including handling and preparation of DNA.

  • Experience with flow cytometry, immunoassays and Surface Plasmon Resonance binding assays (E.g. Biacore etc.) desirable.

  • Experience with automated liquid handling systems desirable.

  • Experience with cell-based assays for ion channels, in particular calcium-flux and membrane potential assays using FLIPR/Flexstation desirable.
