Located in the Laverton region, AngloGold Ashanti Australia's Sunrise Dam is one of Western Australia's premier gold mines. This large-scale underground and open pit operation employs more than 500 people and produces approximately 260,000 ounces of gold per annum, ramping up to 300koz over the next three years. The mine geology team at Sunrise Dam Gold Mine (SDGM) are seeking to employ a full time underground mine geologist to join the on-site team, FIFO from Perth. This role is integral to the continued excellence of SDGM. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a diverse and energetic team, focused on delivery in a complex and challenging deposit at one of W.A.’s busiest underground mines.
The role is accountable to the senior underground geologist and will work very closely with engineering, survey, geotechnical and exploration departments. This close integrated working group allows for the creation and execution of a world class production profile.
Why is now an exciting time to be applying for an underground mine geologist position at Sunrise Dam?The Company is extremely committed to the growth at Sunrise Dam; the site has the biggest exploration budget in the global portfolio, with A$130M being invested over three years.The team is one year into the three year exploration growth programme, which has seen recent success in discovering a new mineralised area of the deposit, and it boasts a fantastic pipeline of highly potential targets.This increased exploration profile directly feeds into an increasing grade control drilling regime currently utilising six underground reverse circulation drill rigs.You will be working within a large, multi-talented and diverse Geology team that consists of 15 Mine Geologists, 20 Exploration Geologists, 30 Geology Technicians as well as 160 drilling contractors.
The key accountabilities of the role include:Demonstrate a strong affinity with AGA values especially in safety ‘walking the talk’Contribute to the development of the Mining plan, short term schedule and execute to the requirements.Coordinate within the geology and mining teams to ensure succinct and timely execution of the mine plan.Manage and report daily, weekly and monthly production activities, reviewing to plan and reporting against scheduled performanceUndertake and oversee underground mapping of development. Training and mentoring graduate geologist and underground techs in all aspects of their roles.Using your experience to deliver industry best practices in the following key aspects of work; drill program design, QAQC, database management, reconciliations and material tracking.Identify, assess and manage risks to improve reliability, quality and confidence of grade control definition process.Manage reverse circulation drilling activities from scheduling to design and implementation.Assist grade control geologist in generating high quality models using conditional simulation techniques.Building and maintaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships with alliance partners across site.Completing all tasks in accordance with all relevant safety instructions, procedures and rules, and the Duty of care.
The ideal candidate will possess:A relevant tertiary degree in Geology, with relevant honours.1-2 years’ experience in a similar role.A strong sense of safety.Ability to work in a dynamic, busy, fast paced mining environment.Very clear and concise communication and written skills.A comprehensive understanding of the mining cycle.Proficient in 3D software packages. Experience in Vulcan is highly regarded.Experienced in QAQC practices.Permanent work rights in Australia.(mandatory)Current C class Manual Drivers Licence.A National Police Clearance.
