About the Opportunity

Are you looking for a meaningful career path and want make a real difference to the health outcomes in rural and remote communities? We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Midwife to join our supportive, multidisciplinary team at the Broken Hill Hospital.

In the role, you will plan and deliver quality clinical care in a caseload Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model for an annual caseload of 35 women, during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal period. You will work flexible hours as part of an on-call roster. Our on-call is structured Monday 8am - Friday 5pm for your own caseload and will share a rotating weekend on-call roster with the rest of the Team.

The MGP Team works closely with a small team of Core Midwives on the Maternity Ward, in collaboration with a consultant obstetrician and are a close-knit, supportive team inclusive of BMids, new graduate midwives and students. On average we have 4 babies born per week! We have a great Level 3 rural maternity unit Level 2 special care nursery and are extremely proud to provide all pregnant women in the Far West access to their own midwife through a midwifery-led continuity of care program.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current midwifery registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  3. Demonstrated application of professional and ethical boundaries to the delivery of patient care with demonstrated capacity to interact with a multidisciplinary team in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise.
  5. Demonstrated application of evidence based practice and critical thinking to advocate for and implement individualised person centred care patient care.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage autonomous caseload and flexible on-call hours within an on-call model of care.
  9. Excellent competency and proficiency as a midwife in antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal care, lactation and infant feeding with an understanding of effective escalation and emergency Midwifery care.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to work and partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families and employees to enhance health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  13. Evidence of participation in own professional development and commitment to maintaining competence and enhancement of skills, and willingness to apply and share professional expertise with colleagues.
