Purpose and Job Summary

The Data Solutions Group provides innovative data, analytic and reporting solutions across the enterprise which will differentiate ORIX as a data-driven world class Asset Management firm. Our goal is to harness data as a critical asset to achieve superior financial results and to drive operational efficiencies across our core businesses.

We are currently leading a multi-year data transformation strategy consisting of a next generation data platform in Microsoft Azure, and a comprehensive firm-wide data management program.

Our company requires a passionate and talented Data Management Lead to own, drive and manage all organization-wide data governance activities and to have responsibility for improving the quality, speed, consistency, protection and management of critical data in the loans, real estate and alternative investment asset classes. Our goal is to treat data as a critical asset. The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework across all ORIX business units and supporting functional areas such as Accounting, Risk and Operations. This role will also require partnership with Technology, Engineering and Architecture professionals to influence the functional and technical design of an end to end data integration and management platform.

The Data Management Lead will have oversight of the Data Management Office, and work with both the Data Governance Committee and related domain leaders to understand and articulate business/data strategy then translate that strategy into an actionable plan. The Data Management Lead is ultimately responsible for ensuring business needs are met as it relates to data.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Data Governance

  • Establish and oversee an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap focused on both tactical and strategic priorities to develop the information-based capabilities supporting ORIX’s Asset Management and Shared Services strategy
  • Understand, document and communicate the key data related issues within each of the domains and develop plans for resolution
  • Roll out an enterprise data governance framework focused on data quality and accuracy, timeliness, standards for data entry and data exchange and ETL, consistent policies, and data security
  • Work with technical teams to establish consistency and standards around data architecture
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance. Ensure clear accountability for data ownership at the business unit and functional areas
  • Ensure data owners have the tools and knowledge to be accountable for the data
  • Serve as a liaison between Business, Functional areas and Technology to ensure that data related business requirements are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of the planning methodology
  • Ensure business needs of consumers are met as it relates to data. Examples include high quality data delivery to drive critical functions such as PnL calculation, risk management, capital allocations and analytics
  • Provide progress reports and updates to Data Governance Committee
  • Data Management
  • Establish consistent high quality methods for the integration of data across ORIX core business units and affiliate organizations
  • Drive operational efficiency and data quality through the full transaction processing life-cycle
  • Develop & maintain inventory of the enterprise information artifacts, including authoritative systems, key data domains and data owners
  • Define key data quality metrics and indicators and facilitate development and implementation of supporting standards. Ensure adoption of required policies and standards across the enterprise
  • Ensure compliance with legal and information security standards
  • Ensure issues raised by business and functional data governance leaders are resolved and that data objectives are met
  • Data Strategy

  • Coordinate external data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the core asset management functions. Act as a “data broker”
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate manual processes related to the data supply chain
  • Develop a deep understanding of the data used within ORIX
  • Identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and superior business results, representing data as a strategic business asset
  • Define and implement procedures for data sharing with management, affiliates and external customers
  • Program Management / Resource Management

  • Train junior data managers when needed
  • Assist in setting milestones and timelines and monitor/manage resource allocations
  • Technical Architecture

  • Lead enterprise data initiatives including MDM, data catalog, metadata management and enterprise data integration and aggregation solutions
  • Evaluate the design, selection, implementation and support of vendor solutions for data management
  • Grow, mature, and enforce modern data documentation standards

    This position has frequent contact with all levels of employees and management. In addition, this role may interact with outside business partners, vendors, consultants, and other office visitors.

    Education, Skills & Experience

    Required

  • 15 years’ experience in a data management or large-scale data project role, with oversight responsibilities at major organization
  • Strong knowledge of finance and capital markets domains and experience implementing data management and data governance practices at enterprise financial institutions
  • Ability to analyze and clearly present multiple solutions and options to solve a problem supported by a compelling fact based business case to recommend solutions
  • Ability to break down complex problems into manageable goals, get to the heart of the problem and make timely decisions
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
  • Technical experience in data architecture and implementing data management platforms such as ETL, MDM, data integration technologies, data analytics technologies, leading vendor solutions and cloud data platforms
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, trends and leading technologies for data management, data governance and data integration
  • Experience with data management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.)
  • Understanding and experience with modern database and information system technologies
  • Internally and externally recognized subject matter expert that influence the way things are done
  • Ability to articulate vision of transformation efforts and a sense of mission
  • Ability to manage senior relationships across all the Business and Functional areas
  • Ability to develop cooperative and constructive working relationships
  • Demonstrated consulting skills, including strategies for current state assessment, proposals, change management and communication strategies
  • Priority setting and alignment of project priorities
  • Project Oversight and Decision making ability
  • Highest personal and professional integrity and strong work ethics
  • Ability to handle complaints, settle disputes and resolve conflicts
  • Results-oriented, willingness to commit to a direction and drive operations to completion
  • BS / MS / BBA in information management systems and/or computer science
  • Some travel to various ORIX US subsidiary locations will be required
