As the Certification Technical Officer you will be reporting to the ASC North Certification Technical Manager with the primary purpose being to provide confidence in the integrity of submarines' SUBSAFE boundary, to contribute to the maintenance of submarine safety when in ASC MATCON and to assist with the operational readiness of submarines' post maintenance availabilities for the Submarine Safety and Certification Group.

Other key components of this role are:

  • Conduct witnessing activities to support the management of the SUBSAFE boundary
  • Operate the Submarine Safety Control Centre
  • Conduct the duties of Platform Safety Coordinator and/or Duty Platform Coordinator
  • Conduct tests and trails including installation inspections, harbour acceptance, harbour verification, sea acceptance and sea verification trails.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of technical and test documentation
  • Integral to this role will be your excellent communication skills showcasing your ability to interact with people at all levels of the company.

    Essential qualifications, technical competencies and experience required

  • Appropriate trade qualifications with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a maritime, naval or dockyard environment.
  • Proven engineering knowledge of systems and equipment on-board submarines and/or ships.
  • Experience working with the Collins Class Submarines
  •  Desirable competencies and experiences

  • Defence Industry experience and detailed knowledge of submarine operation, specifically in the areas of equipment, systems and personal safety.
  • Ultimately we are looking for candidates who have exceptionally high standards of personal organisation and effective communication skills with the ability to work unsupervised in a variety of sophisticated technical activities.
